Just occurred to me that there are no "pre-order" cars- just customer orders-and those are no different than dealer orders. On March 13th the dealers put in their orders -not before. We didn't pre-order anything from the factory. We all when through dealers who then decided when/if to submit their customer orders. All the delivered cars even 'customer' cars are just like any of their other cars- they belong to the dealer...he apparently has the right to sell it to another, keep it, give it to his son, etc...
Might as well buy from the lot...

My preliminary order was accepted 10/28/08. I got the exact car I wanted no more or no less which is usually not the case with buying off the lot. Fortunately, my dealer
is an outstanding business and my expericence turned out perfect. I do feel very lucky.

you may have a point but, at least this way I will get the exact car I wanted. I usually have to compromise, not this time.

Maybe so but I did get two of those cardboard envelopes with that rendering of a camaro, just for letting the dealer hold $1000 for seven months. It even had my name on it....wow

This is why I ordered from a dealer that I have an existing relationship with. I watched my order get entered and accepted in their system on 10/21. I've checked every month when the reports come out to personally view my order still in the system and see if they have actually got an allocation yet. My dealer has no problem showing me this info and if they did I'd take my business elsewhere. So I have ordered cause the order has my name and the system proves my order is the first from the dealer. I trust them enough that I don't even worry about my order being sold to anyone else once it shows up, and I feel sorry for people that can't trust their dealers....they should have gone to one they trusted more. A dealer that sells an already "sold customer order" doesn't deserve to be in business. The only way our pre-orders could be put into the system was with the name/address of the customer. Only a shady dealer would be taking those orders for himself or falsely filling them out.

+10k on this! I'm in the same boat. At first I was kinda bummed that I live in a smaller market but you know what? Dealing with a dealer that's been around for 80 years and ran by the same family for those 80 years is a huge plus. Not only have my parents been life long customers all my siblings and now I am as well and so will my kids. It pays to have a good dealer that you can trust.

If pre-orders didn't exist then we should all be able to walk away from our pre-orders then go to the dealers and get the car with the specs that you want. Yeah right!!!

If you walked into a dealer today and ordered a car that was already established, you would still be in the same situation. If your dealers doesn't do his job then you still get screwed, no different than now.

Well I don't know about the specs being exactly the same but why not? I suspect after June 1st all will be clearer...right now it's kinda like fighting for the last piece of roast beef on the sinking Titanic

My workbench has it saying that I am the customer and I made sure to get a copy of it and all other paperwork, even when you couldn't officially order them yet. If you don't take steps to protect yourself, you are putting yourself at risk.

When I asked my dealer to order my car last Oct. I asked "What if I don't like it for some reason?" His answer" You don't have to buy it and you would get you money back if someone else takes it. " Right then I knew the car was not really mine but the dealer's.

I recently went to a dealer in Va and took his last allocation. He told me that out of the 7 he ordered before me, 5 already had Vins and then he showed me. He guaranteed me in 3 to 4 weeks I would be at 3000 status and the car would be here no later than August. I was skeptical but as I was ordering, he had a customer take delivery and I asked the guy when he ordered. He told me back in March right around when production started. So I asked the dealer why some get theirs faster than others and he told me that they were the number 1 Corvette dealer in the region and the speed of delivery and number of allocations was because of this for all dealers. The bigger the market, the faster the delivery I was told. So far I believe him, all of his orders have been coming in very quickly. Maybe mine will too. He told me to call back in 3 to 4 weeks so he could tell me I'm at 3000. I guess we will see.
