Not trying to start anything but maybe you just need to get used to the car before you can burn out. Or maybe the auto wasn't designed to. Either way no biggie to me.....just saves me money on tires.

In Jay Leno's review, on jaylenosgarage.com, he mentions the traction control setting and being able to turn it on/off to adjust for that... as I recall anyway.

The reason it's so difficult is because the car is designed specifically to put all that power to the ground without spinning the tires! The Camaro is as about go at least as much as it is about show.

I find it usually gets a decent amount of spin and tire squealing in my Maxima. Just shove the pedal to the floor like your trying to push it through the floorpan and don't let off.
FWD = different technique. You use the hill to transfer weight off of the front tires onto the rear so the fronts can break loose easier. It could still work with the Camaro just because the hill also holds the car in place.

Welcome to the LS series engines. They have no hit under 3K RPMs.
If I get my C/E just rolling (feet off of all pedals) and then floor it, I do not get any wheelspin. Kinda disappointing.
I have to tach it up pretty good and then dump the clutch to spin the tires.

These new engines certainly are not like the ones from the '60s and early '70s.

I had a '73 Grand Prix that I built up a little bit. Had a Pontiac 400 in it. I remember backing out of my parents driveway, stopping, shifting to drive, and just flooring it from a dead stop (no brake). The tires would just go up in smoke and I'd be sideways the whole length of the block up to the corner. I could have gone farther but had to let off for the stop sign.

If that's what you're looking for, I don't know what to tell you. I don't think the LS series engines will do that untouched.
I have heard a good tune makes a HUGE difference. Headers, a cat back, and a CAI would probably help as well.

That's why I went with CAI and CatBack additions. I may also add the Headers but haven't decided (likely)... anyway, the goal being to obtain a bit more oomph from the line.

Of the two Mustang videos posted above the first is definitely a V8 manual (post #35), and the second is a V6 (yes) auto (post #37).

GM may be doing something with torque management on the autos?

I've got plenty of seat time in '05/'07 Mustang GTs with auto transmissions, and they will burn them pretty good off the line without power braking (even with the traction control on, as long as you're going in a straight line). Must be the skinny tires

my cousins v8 auto can burn them pretty good from a stop as well, it's either torque management or no torque till 3k rpm or the stickiest tires on the planet.

What the hey!

It's under the umbrella!

Take a run to the dealer, and make sure the T.M. is actually turning off!

Burnout 101 - not easy though

I've had quite a bit of practice with this so far...there's an empty building next to where I work that is perfect for early morning burnouts. It is not easy especially with the 20" PZeros. The system has several modes of control as most know by now -- true competitive mode can only be set by keeping the traction control button down for nearly 10 seconds. Then pull the tranny down to M1 with the paddles, power brake the car up to max stall, then hammer it holding the brakes on. This usually works but not once the pavement heats up and the horsepower drops due to the higher daytime temps it just sticks and goes - the auto really launches hard; I have photos and times...just can't post them yet. Not spinning is a good problem to have - it saved me $$$ when I made over 20 runs at Bradenton two weeks ago since the tires didn't need much to hook up.

The car really needs a higher stall converter for those who really want to push the car straight really fast and be able to roast the tires at will with the auto.

Like I said before. This car needs more gear. I am in first "now" and it will go like hell and I am not sure if the tires are burning or it is just taching up real quick. I am not trying to kill it yet. Got 700 miles on it and want to baby it some more till I try my hand at smoking the tires really good. It does grip real nice and that is a good thing. At the cost of these tires they should give some traction and be able to go fast.

Here's what you do:

Put a cheap set of tires on the back of your Camaro -- and watch them burn all day long.

The idea for performance is to have the car 'hook up' and take off like a scalded cat.....not sit there and smoke the tires.........

Well I was not wanting to smoke the tires. I just thought they would break lose and chirp some. I do agree I like how it just goes with good hook up. I still may look into the CAI and Catbacks down the road.
