Try out silver strand in channel islands if you can. I have a house there and it's not crowded, the homeowners are nice and don't mind where you park. A very calm and nice beach. Good food around the area as well as the navy base

Brutal heat in Palm Springs (Thought so for basically being a desert)?? But not as much on the coast? I haven't gotten around to check temperatures besides Death Valley yet. High heat can cause issues with prosthetic leg. I'll deal with it- but it can be a hassle. I'm hoping the ocean temp is okay in June.

Do any of these beach areas rent mopeds with cool places to ride them safely? Thinking 14 yr old son would get into. Or dune buggy rental?

I really doubt it about the mopeds...maybe around the pier areas. Even if they do, I think 14 is too young. I'm sure there's bicycle rentals...Definitely no dune-buggy rentals. No way anything motorized is even allowed on the sand. You'd probably have better luck with that kind of thing around Pismo Beach, which is actually closer to San Simeon than LA. Actually there's more dune buggying around Indio and Palm Springs than you'll find on the coast.

Thanks for the dune buggying idea in Palm Springs/Indio. I was looking for something to do in that area since we'll probably hang in that area for 2 of the days just to get a break from traveling.

So far for beaches, going to Coronado Beach-probably Sunday-maybe Monday. Nothing but great reviews. Looking for a coll place to eat dinner near there. Next, I'm going to look and see how Malibu Beach area is. After reading some more about Venice Beach- not so sure I want to take my son there. Maybe just an hour or 2 visit in the daytime (No swimming). Undecided on Santa Monica beach based on some reviews. Probably good to at least walk around and goof off. I need to nail down 2 more beach/swimming days.
