Lol @ Richmond gears.
All I will say is I would be embarrassed to run that company. Their quality is no longer existant.

I've read a lot of threads about Richmond gears. They do seem to have issues. Just yesterday at the track someone who had a set of 3.73s for less than 2 weeks broke them. He followed proper break-in procedure and they were installed by a top-notch shop (Livernois).

So far I'm still surviving with my 411's but that's probably because I've been pampering my car like somebody DIDN'T steal it!!!

Richmond gear was recently bought out by the parent company of Motive gear, Midwest Truck and Auto Parts Inc. It seems as though the issues that these gears are having will soon be a part of the past. Motive gear, or Midwest Truck, rather, will take over and replace the manufacturing plant that made Richmond gears.

Tell us more if you know.....did it happen right at the staging light? Were slicks on the car? Auto or Manual?

The car is a L99, 434 rwhp, Livernois 2c cam, ported intake,2400 stall converter, kooks, tune,Nitto Drag radials. He had already made a few passes one being an 11.99. The traction was going away later in the afternoon so he dropped his tire pressure and did a nice burnout, he said it hooked up real good and then let go just after launching. This was the first time at the track with these 3:73 gears. He also followed the break in instructions exactly as they were given to him.

It's really sad that these brand new gears let go like this in an automatic no less. I really can't believe anybody even buys these gears anymore much less sells them to someone.

That's what I'm saying D, it's just pathetic, I can make gears out of hard playdoe that last longer lol.
I know richmond was bought out a good while back but the quality to this point are shit. Did I read somewhere that LPE came out with a taller set than 3.91 that fits our cars? Either way I'd rather have quality 3.91 than shit 4.11(but I reallllly want 4.11) |

Yeah I hear you, I'm in the same boat. If nothing else is available by this winter, I may go with the LPE 3:91 gears and the JRE posi mod.

Im so glad I went with LPE from the jump. No need to worry. Already got too much other crap to worry about than my gears breaking or whining.

Geez another Richmond Gear bashing thread! I must be the only one with the opposite experience. I had the LPE 3.70 with Jannety's posimod, worst decision I have made with this car. The only mod that did damage and had to be redone. Gears were noisy.
If your car sees the street, don't do the posimod. My shop works with Ted and they discussed my build. I was told it wouldn't affect the driving characteristics. Once that posimod went in, I had a lot of chatter from my rear tires. I also had a horrible shake from the rear on launch. We spent a lot of time on the phone troubleshooting with Ted, only to be told that's normal with a posimod. I ripped it out and went to the 4.11s with no posimod. I haven't had an issue since. I have a whipple, cam, and headers. Currently at 650+ rwhp. |
