My buddy had his entire hood done to prevent this. It looks great. His car is orange metallic. I have seen black cars that you can easily see the seam. I personally would rather have a seam then chips so it is the lesser of two evils.

So do we have to get the car Polished (waxed) before we do this?

No, I have done a lot of research on this and most of the reccomendations are to put it on the car when clean. Most guys I know had it done as soon as they got their car, none of them had the car waxed before. There are a couple of companies that have FAQs posted that you may want to check out. I will be doing it myself and buying a precut kit from a company that offers two manufactuers films.

Don't have it on a car. Have 3M clear bra's on my motorcycles. Result--like new paint even after 5 years. Un-noticeable from 2 feet away unless you know what to look for. Good stuff.

I ask my dealer about a clear bra and told there something better than a clear bra called Quantum Sealant System. It protects the inside and outside. It protects your paint from, UV rays and oxidation, resists insects and bird droppings, graffiti, acid rain, tree sap, also protects against sea and road salt, and reduces hard water spots. Also, it protect leather and fabric. It protect the leather from drying and premature aging, and food and drink stains. It protects fabric from stains and easy clean up; liquid spills blot up with cloth. It cost the same as the clear bra but it protects everything.

If it is a sealant it can't protect against rocks and road objects can it?

Exactly what I want to do also.

While I can't find any additional information on the net, I can almost guarantee you that this sealant system will not protect from chips and deep scratches. The only reason it may protect against bug residue, tar, sap, and even foreign paint substances is likely because it is either teflon or silicone based. If that's the case, then I'd say stay away. Teflon and silicone seep deep into your paint right down to the sheet metal; I ain't wishing anything on you but if you ever get into a car accident it will be practically impossible for the painter to nicely repaint it. The paint won't stick and cause fisheyes, malformations in the paint.

Just my 2 cents.

I got clearbra on my car through a local company called rockblocker.com. He installed it for me as I chose to do a full hood kid for the extra money to avoid a line on the hood. I've done many road trips with it and its been a life saver for rock chips.

Rockblocker provides pre cut pieces so I would check out his site and see if he has anything for the Gen 5 yet.

I was looking at the front of the Camaro...

That seam down the front fenders that die into the wheel well would be a perfect place to end it and make the edges of the Clear Bra unnoticeable.

Dealer is quoting me $595 +tax. I think I could probably find it cheaper though.
