NYS requires a front plate to be on a car. You don't have to install it but the police can write you a ticket for not having it mounted. I think it is around $100 fine after fees and such. Many people don't mount them and are not getting pulled over. Depends on the cop and it sounds like they are enforcing it in your town. You can get a flip plate holder I have one and I think Spike does as well. Mine was around $100 and I had to get it as it took 2days for my wife to get the plate ticket after we picked up the Camaro

I never had a front plate on my 2000 Camaro and never had a problem the front plate was always under the front seat if needed. but on the new Camaro the dealer had already mounted the plate I did not want to have holes drilled in the bumper but it had already been done. I would suggest looking into the flip up ones that way there should be no hassel.

I had a wireless hide-a-way plate bracket on my 4th gen SS. It comes with a key fob so you can extend or retract it from inside the car! I always drove around with it retracted and if I ever got stopped I would just extend it and say "I don't know what your talking about?, I have a front plate"
