To the OP, congrats on the purchase, I know you must be happy cruising around in that car!
If the rwhp numbers are accurate, the ZL1 engine is almost certainly making more than the advertised hp. I am not aware of any significant improvment in the ZL1's drivetrain (auto or manual trans) that would decrease the mechanical friction loss by 5-7 percent. In the OEM world this would be huge gains in performance and fuel economy for any drivetrain.

Great Numbers

I have to say that the guys over at FORD with the recent release of the 2013 Shelby GT500 being rated at 662HP ans 631 ibs. should probably put up a huge number on the chassis dyno. I wish the GM Engineers would have taken the ZR1 motor from the Vette and de-tuned it rather that using the CTS-V motor and doing a engine calibration. It is nice knowing that our car should be faster once we go to the CTS Plattform. and build a smaller camaro

Well then, SAE numbers, certification procedures, and testing be damned, its under-rated!

I think the "If" that you started with is the biggest unknown. One thing I find here on C5 is a huge disparity between reported rwhp dyno numbers. Everybody's is different. Who knows if and when these dyno's are calibrated. I also know nothing about how the corrections measured and factored.

It is very difficult to equate these rwhp numbers to OEM flywheel ratings. They should only be used for delta comparison and for that they are fery useful.

When calculating drive train loss you do not add to the dyno results. Since the percentage represents what is being "taken away" from the crank HP, you must start with the flywheel HP. 580 HP x (1 - percentage of drive train loss) (1-.18=.82) therefore 580 x .82 = 475.6. To calculate the flywheel hp based on a dyno number, you would just continue to add to the estimated flywheel HP using industry standard drive train loss percentages consistent with a particular vehicle. 620 HP at an 18% loss would be 508.4 HP. Therefore you are left with 2 assumptions, assuming the dyno results are accurate and consistent. To generate 508 HP on the dyno, you are either losing less than 18% in the drivetrain or you are making more than 580 hp at the crank. The only other option is the dyno results can't be trusted, in which case every dyno result is a moot point.

What is certain is we have reached the point of unusable horsepower. 580, 650, whatever....for street cars they are unmanagable for the masses. In the proper hands, they can be taken to the apex of their performance limits. This car is crazy, and I know the '13 GT 500 will be as crazy as well. Good times for motor heads for sure.

My dad told me companies to this and have been for years... He told me its impossible that it's only 580 pushing 510 plus to the wheels he said, yep they underrate them just like they did to his C4 ZR1 he had
