If they are the sales leader, the odds are on our side.

Time will tell - and if someone does close, open orders SHOULD be transferred to another local dealer.

Dudes, I am in a town of 15,000 my Chevy dealer is a good freind. His dad started the dealership like 60 years ago. They spend alot of money sponsorig the little league base ball eams, et. you name it. Our local Chevy dealer is absolutley apple pie in our community. We cannot do without it.

The problem I see with that is that the way GM dealers are in the area of Houton ,TX they would take the transferred order and sell it for over MSRP,
Before respecting the customers.

I think the point was that a smaller town that has the only Chevy dealer in the area close causes a larger ripple effect than a dealer being closed in a larger city where there are still 2+ dealers left selling the same brand. Around my area the dealers are scattered like 50+ miles apart. If lots of these smaller dealers close it's going to really hurt the communities cause for 1 there probably aren't any other dealers around for these people to try to get jobs at . And for another customers will have to travel a crazy distance just to get warranty work done on their car.

"Transfered to another dealer" that would suck to all that have a handshake agreement for MSRP or below and the dealer that it is trasnfered to has a $5k+ mark up.

... to add to the point made by "LnLSS"... what happens to the buyers who don't have a simple "handshake" agreement, but have (sometimes substantial) deposits placed down on the car... what happens to the deposit? (probably depends on the dealer, I'm sure... but it's not a great position to be in...)

I was just watching this am about GM dealer closing (CNBC I think). Someone who professed to know about GM franchise's says the GM dealer franchise are renewed on an annual basis. GM will just tell those who they don't plant on renewing, sorry. If the franchise renewal date is 3 months away, then they have 3 months. If its 11 months then they have 11 months, etc. So most dealers won't close that fast.

They are saying sales volume is not the sole determining factor. There are many dealers who sell at lot but also have a high customer dissatisfaction score.

According to big dealers they interview many dealers have stopped ordering cars and trucks already. I think a lot also depends on what competition is nearby. If there are other brands close then the GM dealer is safe. But if you are in a area where the GM dealers out number the other brands, then there is to many. Volume does not guarantee survival, customer satisfaction is high on the list.

I stopped by my dealer last night and they are nervious becouse they are a small dealer in a small town with bigger dealers around them.

The thing is, they are the "good" guys while the other dealers treat you like meat.

... if the information in the dealer thread on GM Insider News is correct, it looks like there are 5 criteria... sales volume, sales and service csi, capitalization (working capital),
location and the dealership's facility (new, updated, etc).
