meh... I dealt with this type of mentality alot growing up. That is, 'my friends are mad at me, what did I do wrong?' I think you're over-reacting, and just about anywhere on the internet is the wrong place to air this out. But, then again, it's whatever. It really doesn't affect me, and I won't bash you for it.

The best advice I can give is, from here on out, keep an 'ear' out for what you say. Some people don't realize that they're being bratty, snobbish, or just a pain in the ass when they're really excited about something. I know I can sometimes come off as an elitist, which is why I'm usually pretty quiet about most stuff. I might say 'Oh, yea, that's my car. I just got her' if they ask about it. If someone notices it and is excited about it, they'll mention it. Otherwise, if you have to blatantly point it out (like 'HEY GUYS, CHECK OUT MY NEW CAR!!!'), then chances are they probably were jealous, and it's like rubbing salt in the wound, or they just don't really care.. Doing this on a forum is different, since you're with like-minded people who are genuinely enthused about Camaro's.

I've generally never cared about what anyone thinks of me, and I only keep the friends that will hang out with me regardless. I would say don't sweat it.

Just don't ever brag about your car. Offer people rides, let them check it out, maybe let your closest friends drive it too.

If you brag about it, you're going to piss people off. I personally didn't tell anyone about my camaro. I let people find out. I've had my camaro for almost 5 months now and some of my good friends at school are just now finding out.

I'm 19 by the way.

And when people start to think I was just handed my camaro, I got on to tell them I'm helping make car payments and keeping Hope (scholarship here in GA) is a requirement for keeping the camaro. Also the work I do is for my father, so since he's got the other part of the car payment, he gets to name my wages, hahaha

As you earn more in life, you will alienate some of your old friends who can't "keep up". It's a fact of life. You'll just meet others of the same income group and interests.

The problem is, you might eventually reach an income group where all people do is compare the cost of their stuff with each other.

spoken like a person who's never been married. Being happily married is tough; for down-time the last thing I want to do is hang around other chicks - it's mentally draining. Give me a bunch of guys who just talk meaningless rubbish over beer any time when I want to relax!

People interpolate information, and often in their favor, or to someone's detriment. It's even worse with dumb people.

You just have to disregard it and use it as motivation to do even better with your life. Done deal.
I never had anything real terrific when I was young, but right now I hang around middle-class to upper-middle-class folks and I sure get more stupid comments about my car from the middle-class folks. They may not act hostile like a 20 year old, but they would make judgmental comments to my wife, like:
"that's a really expensive car" so?
"I would never let my husband buy a car like that" good for you!
"You really treat your husband well" just because you treat your husband badly, why do I have to suffer?

I think I'm pretty reasonable - I'm good with money, and I don't splurge on anything else. So if I have one indulgence, so what? At least I race my car and didn't buy it to show off, like say a BMW.

I'm at peace with myself, but I get really mad when people try to make my wife feel guilty.

Sounds more to me like jealousy than anything else. Your friends should be happy for you and want to ride with you. Maybe it's other things you are unaware of. Why not go and ask them what it is?

I'm older than you and just bought my 2012 last week and actually joined this forum today. Only a few people know i bought my car and that wasn't from me telling them. My gf knows because she asked where i was on the phone and i told her i was signing the paper work for my new Camaro . Other than that i didn't tell anyone else. They will find out in due time.

In the mean time, i can't help but have a smile on my face and enjoy what i worked so hard for. So in the end if they truly are your friends they will get over it and come around or if not they really weren't your friends.

A handful of real, actual friends is better than boatloads of "Oh I know that guy." kinds of friends.

And remember: "Friends help you move. Real friends help you move bodies."

(Best not to test that out, though. :p )

I get ragged on by neighbors and I only wash it once a week, lol. I had it exactly one week before I gave it the first wash and a neighbor driving by stopped and asked how many times I'm going to wash "this one". I know they're just busting my chops, but damned, washing your vehicle once a week that you drive every day isn't overkill, lol.

Nope. Everyone has been happy and excited for me and wishing me luck with the car. Heck, even the guy at the gas station that pumps my gas was all smiles and excited over me getting the Camaro and asking about it. But maybe that's because I'm in my mid-30's and my friends are well past the childish jealousy stage.

Ok.... I see your petty, and I raise you naive.

A. This is only one side of the story. He could be a total jerk and ****y to his friends... And with his constant "they just jealous" and his friends are "pissed cuz I'm doin big thangs", it isn't far fetched.

B. Call me old fashion, but car forums should be more about the car, not a big huggy carebear-fest where we kiss each others butts all day cuz we own the same vehicle.

I'm not "petty" cuz I have an opinion. I'm entitled to mine and you're entitled to yours... And guess what... Opinions are worth what you pay for them.
