I am guessing Ford did not accept the challenge becasue they did not have an apples to apples comparison of their own (closd track). Any smart attorney knows that you shouldn't ask a question unless you alrady know what the answer will be.
Also, it seems like a collosal waiste of money as people will buy the car they are loyal to regardless of the outcome. How many bandwagoners, from either camp, are going to honestly buy the other car based on a head to head ring time? My guess woiuld be a VERY small percentage, and of those hard core track guys, I am sure they KNOW they would be better off in something like a Boss 302S or used porsche CUP car, ie a dedicated road race car.

As was mantioned by another poster, either one of these cars will put a big smile on your face and will put a hurting on most things they come across on the street (especially when modded). Randomly seeing the other car in traffic will be a rare occurance, so you won't have to worry too much about who will have the bigger smile when it does happen.
It was for engineering and development. And why not add a little marketing as well! Not a Waste!

Does it matter when they challenged them?! Ford could have still took the bait and set a time to race the ZL1. It's not dumb to say Ford ran away, it's chicken of them imo.
You realize that there is a night/day difference between this SS and the 13' GT500 right? Almost every DT system including launch control, TC and suspension has been upgraded to put the power down. This video is an example of why FORD did not put 662 hp in the new 500 and call it a day..

Enjoy believing that this 1/4 time is a reflection of what the 13' GT500 will run

When they ran what? Unless they trapped in the mid 120s the car is rated accurately. So did they trap in the mid 120s bone stock? That's what would happen if the car was making 50hp more than it was rated for. You tell me. The car is not underrated by 50hp, period.

Would the people that would actually be swayed not to buy the ford by such an event more than likely be on the line about it already and be equally moved to buy it if it won?
You obviously didn't read my post carefully because I didn't say Ford would not benefit from winning head to head. HOWEVER, they would benefit no more from winning the head to head than they would from just posting a faster official lap time.

The benefit Ford would see from winning in a head to head comparison on the 'ring is the same benefit they would see by posting a faster official lap time than zl1. By not accepting the challenge they control whether or not the gt500 actually posts an official time. If it posts a faster time, they advertise that and gain. If it posts a slower time, they never reveal the time and see no negative impact from it. If they were to go head to head, if the gt500 posted a faster lap time it would benefit them no more than a faster official lap time, but losing in head to head would be far more negative than just never posting an official lap time because they couldn't beat it. There is NO benefit to Ford accepting the challenge because they only add risk while seeing no increase in potential reward.

Lol i totally agree but you kno what ppl mean when they say a drivers race!!

A civic can line up with a C6Z and if the Z starts in 5th gear that civic would walk the dog on that ass. Lol

If any of you have gone to the drag strip lately you know that these stock cars for the most part do not run anywhere near what we read about in these forums.
Im not saying that at all. I was just saying when determining which car is indeed the "faster" car overall i would like to see all things being as close to equal as possible. Ya kno apples to apples. So if they were gonna put a A6 against a M6 they shoulda made sure that had a guy that could shift the car well enough to show its full potential. Ideally they should have put a M6 vs M6 with the SAME driver.

Facts are facts tho. In THAT race the V was the quicker car, but in THAT race the Shelby was indeed the faster car.
