It's the spring loaded isolator coupling, hence the reason the solid isolator coupling is included in the pulley upgrade. Its normal to hear this sound, don't worry. If you really want to freak out... pull the snout off the supercharger and look at the wear marks created by the clacking part. There is a ton of info about this in the Cadillac forums. I read an article a few months back where a lead design engineer justifies this entire event. If I can find it I will post the link to the interview.

So the choice is rattle but warranty is intact or no rattle no warranty?

Something I read stated that it is considered to be a single unit from Eaton. It sounds like we should be looking to Eaton to fix this rather than GM.

I just received my car back from the dealership. They referenced this as a "normal" noise and referenced the following PIP:

The following diagnosis might be helpful if the vehicle exhibits the symptom(s) described in this PI.

Condition/Concern:
A supercharger noise may be experienced at idle that sounds like marbles rolling around in the supercharger. Some may also describe this as an erratic rattle-type noise that sounds similar to combustion noise on a diesel engine.

This noise will only be heard at idle and it will go away when the RPM is raised off of idle slightly. Typically, the hood will have to be open to hear the noise outside of the vehicle or the vehicle will have to be parked next to a wall (ie...restaurant drive-thru, etc) to hear it from inside the passenger compartment.

When comparing this noise to other vehicles, it may be noted that other vehicles exhibit the same noise at idle but some are louder/quieter than others.

This noise may be mistaken for a bad supercharger bearing, which may lead to unnecessary supercharger replacement, but it is most likely a normal noise characteristic of the torsional isolator at idle.

Recommendation/Instructions:
If the noise above is experienced, perform the diagnostic steps below:
•Park in an open area with the hood and windows closed.
•With the engine at operating temperature, raise the RPM to 1200 RPM and re-evaluate the noise while sitting inside of the vehicle.

If the noise is no longer present, this should be considered a normal noise characteristic of the supercharger - do not replace the supercharger in an attempt to repair this noise.

If the noise is still present, allow the engine to cool, temporarily remove the supercharger belt, and listen to the noise again. If the noise was present at 1200 RPM with the belt on but is gone with the supercharger belt removed, replace the supercharger by following SI procedures and re-evaluate the concern.

Please follow this diagnostic or repair process thoroughly and complete each step. If the condition exhibited is resolved without completing every step, the remaining steps do not need to be performed.

Will adding the part you have stop the dealer from providing SC or engine warranty if found?

This seems like such a simple fix,,, why isn't GM fixing it? The fix appears to be a cheaper part than the one that is causing the problem.

Fbodfather can you give us your insight on this ?

I believe GM was replacing SCs initially for these noises. After reading a couple articles in GMHTP, it sounds like it really amount to no additional wear on the snout or anything else. I could understand how this could be concerning and irritating at the same time...

When i worked on the aftermaket viper kits we would some times get a noise from the belt tensioner bottoming out usually a small adjustment of the tensioner or shorter belt to keep it in the proper range was in order. what really surprises me is it is an easy fix, but typical GM justs releases a memo saying thats normal GOOD bye
