My Dealer is Toast

Spoke to me dealer today and he said they were notified that they are on the cut list effective October 2010. He said it is not final but it is what it is. I have an order in and am the #1 allocation but they are a small rural dealer and I am still at 3000 and have been for over a month. He said it does not impact my order but who knows Not sure what to do now, I guess just wait.

Being at 3000 I'd say you are fine since they aren't closing shop right away. Only thing I'd worry about...mark ups!

That sucks...Sorry to hear that. Oct is a ways off, so you have plenty of time to see how things shake out.

True...the dealer closing down a year and a half from now won't have an impact on your order. GM shutting down production for a undetermined amount of time due to the dreaded B word will have an impact on everyone's order. At this point that is all I am worried about.

Whoever is still sitting under 3800 as of June 1, will at least face the possibility of having to wait until restructuring is completed before their car will be produced. Who knows for sure how long that will take.

I suppose there is a possibility that the Oshawa plant will never actually stop producing cars during this time but that remains to be seen.

Do the current Camaro owners who are driving their car today realize just how valuable your car is going to become if bankruptcy happens by June 1 and production does stop?

I wouldn't worry about it at all... Oct is a long way off and ethics will prevail in this situation...

Is GM still going to sell him cars until OCT 2010 or cut him off now? If they cut him off now he will be out sooner!

he has no idea, said the letter was a form letter, very impersonal and cold. He said the real slap in the face was getting two deliverys the same day as the letter.

The Camaro looks like it's going to beat you unconscious, put you in a silly hat, invite a couple of other Camaros over to take photos of you, then e-mail them to all your friends and co-workers. Call me crazy, but I like that in a car."

Don't be so sure that produced cars not actually in transit will be shipped after June 1st. I have dealt with many different trucking firms for a few decades. One thing is universal: they work on thin margins, and can not/will not be strung out for cash receivables for very long.

It may very well be that the Camaro plant does not shut down. It may be that arrangements are made with third party shippers ahead of time to avert a shipping shut down. At this point, none of that is certain.
