Quote from the Press release:
-"The 11.93-second ET in a stock ZL1 tested by the engineers wore the factory-issued Goodyear Eagle F1 Supercar G:2 tires developed specifically for it, putting the car only a scant 0.44-second away from that additional racing safety requirement."

That's the truth.

Quoted also from the Press Release:
-"The ZL1 is great at everything and we're very proud of that," said Tony Roma, Camaro ZL1 program engineering manager. "You can take it to the drag strip and run 11-second quarter-miles all day long.

Here is were the mistake was made. Tony Roma said 12's All day Long in the Video.
I think marketing might have made this mistake...There lies the confusion

"as engineers recently turned an 11.93-second/116-mph quarter-mile elapsed time run in a showroom-stock Camaro ZL1..."

"The 11.93-second ET in a stock ZL1 tested by the engineers wore the factory-issued Goodyear Eagle F1 Supercar G:2 tires ..."
How about the part where he says it runs 12s all day?

Like many of us have said.. DRs had 0 business being used or shown in a video talking about an OEM ZL1 breaking in to 11s.. It's very highly debated and marketing should have known better. That's the source of all of it..

How does that statement prove that a completely stock ZL1 did not run a 11.93 quarter mile?

So... Let me get this straight.. You'll quote the article as fact, but will debate the spoken words in the accompanying video as false? Got it.. Now, why is it you were calling out others for logic issues again?

@GoldenBear:

I rarely ever have disagreement with what you say. This time, however, I'm shocked that you would suggest that the press release is fact. Copy can always get messed up. Also, you'll notice that the video shows numerous car take-offs, but no full run. Finally, if my eyed didn't deceive me, I saw take-offs with both DR's and oem tires.

"Us people" include more than just those actively posting on the topic.. The same conversations are being had elsewhere over the same topic.. I don't know why everyone gets so up in arms over questions. Jesus.. No one has bashed the car in this thread... Not one.. We're simply trying to clear up the discrepancy.

Were the video and the press release released by GM together?

Stating that the ZL1 can run 12's all day is not inconsistent with a ZL1 running a 11.93, because stating that the ZL1 can run 12s all day is not the same as saying that it can't run an 11.93.

The press release miss quoted Tony Roma in regards to the “12 seconds All day long”. They wrote 11 seconds all day long.

Am I the only one who is NOT impressed with that time? A stock SS is 12.7-12.9 @111mph with a good driver. To add 160hp and only pick up 6mph....wtf? Even if it weighs 200lbs more than an SS it should still pick up 10mph+. We'll see what happens onece other drivers get their hands on them.

We are just going to have to disagree.. I don't want to fight with you over it. You're obviously very passionate about it and I respect that. I honestly hope it is 11.xx on OEM tire and that it's just poorly directed video. I still think it would have been better to leave the DRs out of the video and have released as a totally separate segment.
