Because it would minimize THEIR contribution to the overall performances possible for that vehicle/combination.

This can't be overstated. It's not that the after market shops are trying to run bad stock times. It's that they have no incentive to try and run the best possible stock time that it is possible to achieve.

We agree, but I'm pretty sure the poster was referencing Big Al when has erroneously stated "top brass".

there's quite a few.......

here's a quickie for ya, from gm's liar in chief.....

Not so fast, says Camaro Chief Engineer Al Oppenheiser (above). Speaking with Autoblog at an Arizona drive event for the Camaro ZL1, Oppenheiser told us, "We've done simulations. We predict that the ZL1 will be quicker to 60 than the [2013] GT500... We ran the Nürburgring and released a time. Ford took the GT500, too, and never released a time. I guess you can draw your own conclusions."

When asked point-blank if he thought the ZL1 would be quicker around the 'Ring, Oppenheiser replied, "No question."

so what's gonna be the excuse when the shelby runs a quicker 1/4, quicker nurburgring lap, faster top end, and better lap times at tracks here in the usa? will we shift it to the "gt500 vs zr1" argument again? or will we use the "well if the camaro weighed 250 pounds less" argument.

two great cars, two different approaches. if you can't accept the fact that ford's puttnig out a great product, then you're either really young, and don't know any better, or you just don't wanna see it.

engines do not know what name is stamped on the valve cover.

As stated above, Al Oppenheiser is not "top brass."

People should be accurate with their statements instead of causally making misstatements and spreading misinformation, or worse yet, disinformation.

There was a guy that ran a 12.04 on stock rubber/manual with a car that had 250 miles on it. Video taped it from inside the car and showed slips. Of course this was smoke and mirrors as well becasue he didn't tape it from the tree and get the time board in the video. Just wears on some us I think. They are both great cars. It's incredibly annoying that the default when anyone doesn't praise the zl1 as God's own is, "the mustang guys. . . " I implore all of you to take a few minutes to examine the first couple pages of this thread and find what kind of car is driven by the people questioning the runs.

I still haven't seen anyone say there's no way a zl1 could run these times. I think we all agree it's capable. The problem is, there were two conflicting sources. There was enough confusion that multiple auto news sources had to go back and ask GM to confirm, not just the mustang guys. Is it really that unreasonable to be confused over GM's statement when another, GM specific, source states the runs were on drag radials and the 60' times are incredibly good for stock tires?

Now we know the zl1 ran these times on stock tires They're some great runs and some super impressive driving.

Unfortunately now, other debates are starting over stupid shit as usual. Someone asks if this is faster than the 2012 gt500 and when a credible source is posted it must be BS because other runs were considerably slower. Slower runs with the zl1 are in cars that have, "problems" but only the Ford camp is making excuses. . . right. Do you guys not see how dumb and cyclical these arguments are? If the direction of this thread can be summed up simply, here it is:

Don't let it ruin your day buddy the new ford hasn't beaten the stock ZL1 in anything yet, so settle down. And after it's released then you can join the rest of the real world where people can mod their car if they don't like the performance as is. And you can make a chevy as fast and faster than any ford--that's the truth. But you can never make the mustang as cool and sexy as the Camaro, that's just about a fact too haha.

I dont think its coool to come tup a board just to talk trash or put down any specific car, but theres nothing wrong with having discussions with two different view points as long as facts are used and the discussion stays civil......

Also,i dont see how al o wouldn't be considered top brass, if he isnt, then who is?

Well I ran my stock 2012 GT500 with 200 miles on it at the track Wednesday on the stock tires. Only thing I did was ice down the blower between runs. Here is a pic of some of the slips................
