Even with a bigger inter cooler, if you spin the piss out of a small blower, it's going to create a lot of heat.

I'm curious if they did a gear swap or raised the rev limiter.

Someone please tell me: Is the GT500 a "factory" car or are they still considered post-title Shelby builds? Because if they are, then technically we're still pitting modified against modified here.

Also this article:: http://www.camaro5.com/forums/showthread.php?t=97479 ::says that the SS reached 174.4 mph after the top speed limiter was removed. So if the SS will do that, why is it so hard for the ZL1 (with another 154 HP) to go just another 25.6 mph?? Is it gearing? What? This does'nt make sense to me.

And did anyone else notice the amount of flex in the ZL1's front end on this 200+ run? INSANE!!! Looked like it was about to rip off!

The GT500 is all Ford built right beside all other mustangs right down the same line. The are only Shelbys in name only.

They are not different than the ZL1 being built right beside all other camaros in the same plant.

I was wondering the same thing about the GT500. They were, for a long time, considered tuner cars. And yes...if that is the case, which I assume it is, then they are pitting tuner against tuner.

I don't think it's that hard at all for the ZL1 to achieve these speeds with a bit of tweaking, but 25.6 mph is still a big number when you're trying to hit 200. If you watch the video again, they explain it was the driver & heat soak in the engine which was making it hard for the car to achieve that speed. The driver wasn't driving it properly and the heat soak was affecting it. Once they got the proper combination figured, that was when it hit 200. Don't forget the winds they were fighting as well.

As for the flex in the front end, if you ever see a Z06 doing 200 mph, the front end in it flexes dramatically too. In fact there is a reinforcement piece made for them to prevent that from happening.
