Cat-backs vs axle-backs

Are there big differences in performance gains between a cat-back system and an axle back system? Right now i only have a cai but more mods are to come.

I am no expert, but I hear that exhaust really isn't much gain at all...regardless of axle or CAT back. That said...I went with CAT back since I felt it sounded a little better.

I have a cat back and I would disagree that there is no gain from an exhuast. I noticed a definate improvement right after I got my exhaust put on; not earth shattring but certainly some better pick up. I'm no gear head and I'm sure some of it was from losing the weight of the massive stock mufflers but I have to believe that the increased airflow is giving me better performance, particularly when coupled with a cai that allows the air to flow. Is it more than an axle back? Idk how much difference that stretch of pipe makes and Idk what the diameter difference is but when I was going through the same thing you are trying to figure out which way to go the consensus was that if there is a gain to be had it is from a cat back.
