This is a generic GM "smoke screen". You want proof? Try getting that answer in writing.

I'm at that point in the process as well (with just about identical wear marks as yours and in the same spots). I get to stare at that V mark every time I get in the car (unless the top is down ).

My dealership is actually a pretty good dealership (well known and been around for years), but they have to follow the GM process as well. GM has tried every angle so far to blow me off. I don't go away. They made this an adversarial condition as soon as they (the GM rep who started out handling my case) told me that the rub marks are "normal" and GM will do nothing more for me (in spite of the obvious rational arguments against these rub marks being normal; past converts that I have owned, the fact that they have a TSB, the fact that there are other Camaros that don't have these marks, etc.).

Latest contact was last friday when the dealership called me with the "GM field tech area specialist manager caseload rep" (they have so many bullshit levels of individuals, its impossible to follow which one you are dealing with). I was given the same looney tune lines you got,"We really care" "We really want to be sure you're happy" "We will do what it takes to fix your problem" blah, blah blah. He started right in with the lines so quickly, that I thought I was in the movie, "The Goods: Live Hard, Sell Hard" (look it up. It relates nicely)

He immediately offered me up an "extended warranty" of 4 years 65,000 miles. I laughed and said no. You need to go at least 10 years 100k miles. But he was insistant on getting me to agree to 4 years 65k, "just for now" (which I would not do. Hell if I go through this much grief to get the original problem fixed, what's another year and a few thousand miles do for me?). I got the feeling that this was an item on his "check off list" of things in his process to show that he is doing something.

Long, long story shorter, you need to be vigilent. You need to be insistant and you need to document. There will be times when you walk away from the dealer that you feel like like puppy dogs and daffodils and all the world is there to help you. There will also be times that you feel like ripping the heads off bats and spitting them back in their face (Ozzy Osborne reference. No animals were harmed in the relating of that analogy ).

Make no mistake you are embroiled in a conflict that may require you to smile when you want to frown and frown when you want to smile. I'm guessing you already have a case number. If you don't, get one. This is something that could put you back to square one of the process (if you don't have one).

And if you want some support (or just to rant), feel free to jump on here or our Facebook page http://www.facebook.com/#!/groups/226942550693692/ for a little moron....er moral support.

Its so wonderful to spend 40k-45k on a brand new vehicle and then have to fight to have a 40k-45k vehicle
I understand your frustration -- I believe he knows (or if he doesn't, I do) that I am 100% prepared to throw the mother of all stinks about this, and that's fine -- I'm usually extremely hotheaded -- walking in guns blazing. But this time, probably for the first time ever, I am going to let the GM machine play out and see what is what.

Update

Called the shop manager Tom on Friday afternoon about 1pm, asked if he had any new information. He stated that he was waiting for the rep, also named Tom, to get back to him.

I said something like "still? It's been over a week." And he replied taht the rep was probably waiting for GM to come through with some sort of process for them to do; and that, again, they will absolutely do everything in their power to make me happy.

And I'm still praying.........

As you probably know, be the sqeaky wheel. I have needed to "reconnect" with almost all the individuals that I have dealt with (save the dealership manager who is making a point that he is doing all that he can within the GM parameters to help me).

Its about persistance and insistance. Good luck

Well, I got a call from the shop manager this morning. He tells me "We're going to get you a new roof"

YES!!!!!

He told me if I don't hear form him by mid-next week, to give him a shout. He said he has to get one, and then it'll be done. He told me that the dealership owner had a 2012 vert that had to be replaced as well just last week -- which says to me that (hopefully) they are good at this since I would imagine they wouldn't have done a crappy job on the owner's car.

In any case, when the time comes, I am going to make sure they understand to pay special attention to the water bag, wind noise issues that are common (I've read at least) to new roofs.

I'm a very pleased man right now.......and very happy that I took the time over the course of almost two years to "vet"these dealerships before I made the plunge and bought this car.

Let's just hope it continues positive!

Careful, What did they mean by a new roof ? Canvas ? Mechanics ? Both ? does it include the new water management bag ?
Just need to be sure what they are doing since a total top replacement may be easier for them to do than just a canvas replacement.

Not to scare anybody, but I went through three top replacements before I got a Full top replacement, canvas, mechanics, and water management. Should also verify that if your dealership has not done a camaro top replacement then request a GM engineer be there to help. This isn't as simple as a vete replacement. Again this is only advice from someone who has lived through this process.
Good Luck, keep us up to date !

I did, and no, I don't know... I'll find out when I drop it off. However, I'm not overly concerned as I plan on dropping off my notice letter which is a requirement for MN Lemmon Law. Any problems following this replacement will result in me proceeding with the lemon law...

I think this is trip 7 or 8 into the shop for me with top or related issues... I think I'm done after this.

I absolutely don't blame you. When i got the voicemail from the dealer asking me to call him back my heart was racing so bad I literally couldn't catch my breath because if he had said anything other than were replacing your roof, I would have gone Chernobyl. Even still, my hackles are so raised that I'm consistently on edge "just in case". I get off a phone call and later find myself analyzing every single word, every intonation, every nuance of his speech. Every time. Its maddening.

So to be like you and have gone through this 7 or 8 times.......to say I don't blame you is an understatement. Hopefully your initiation of the lemon law process is enough for them to maybe even buy your car back or otherwise make it totally right with you.

I may not be out of the woods yet either, but there are resources for people like you, me and others on the forums here. We just have to pull out all the stops. 45k plus or minus is a big nut to always have something wrong!

I filed with the BBB and in in my fix I requested a 10 yr 100k warranty. When the GM complaint line called she said that might be a little hard to get. I laughed and said, just fix the top and it shouldn't be an issue. When I had the VIP customer service on they offered a whopping 4yr 48k, which I turned down and went the BBB route. So now I wait to find out what is going to happen.

After looking at my paperwork I realize how much time I have wasted with this issue. 5 trips to my dealership for top/TSB/recall issues. Dealer is 45 miles away. Car is out of commission a miniumum of 2 days each trip. I had to send all my papers from the dealer to the BBB. Fax was 16 pages.

With the gas, time and everything else. Is 10yrs and 100k really that much to ask for other then a top that doesn't rub and have holes?
