How a stall can do in 1/4mile for a cammed L99?
I recently fitted TSP AFM/VVT-3 cam to my L99.Rest of mods in the sig.
I am running standard stall at the moment and best ET I can get is 12.8@114.2mph , this with 18"+295 DR ,best 60" I can do is 2.29..its pretty bad. I am getting a 2800 stall fitted soon, how this will improve my ET? Also will an aftermarket stall shift faster than standard stall in all 6 gears? My standard stall now shift like xxit with the vvt cam..especially 1-2 and 2-3,during the shifting it bucks a bit and delayed the time. thanks for your advice!

Sounds like you need some work on the tranny tune. A stall is going to be one of the best bangs for the buck you can get. Looks like you need to work on the launch some. Tire pressure etc.. Working on getting that 60 down is the best thing you can do at the moment.

I gained about .5 with my JRE converter and tranny tune. Well worth the little it costs.

What is the stall rpm of an A6 Camaro? Anyone know or tested it?
Hold the brakes and press the gas, see where the rpm stops. |

With a stall and tune, you can pretty much expect a .5 faster 1/4 mile. With just exhaust (no headers), 3400 stall, tune, cai, trailing arms with bushings, and ported throttle body, my 1/4 mile dropped from 14.3 down to 12.7, this is in 80-90 degree weather also. I have yet to get above 110 mph on the quarter, normally hit around 107-108.
Looks like you are having more of a problem hooking up than anything else. Even with using drag radials, I was breaking them loose on almost every launch, but still able to get 1.7-2.0 60'. The stall did lower my mpg, but hard to really tell since I like spirited driving, so cannot tell how much it really dropped it, I am getting around 17-18 mpg with 1/2 city driving and 1/2 freeway, 20 miles a day.

997turbo - Looks like you need to figure out how to get that thing to hook. If you can cut a 1.6 or 7 60' that would easily be a low 12 car. Little differences on the short end pay huge dividends on the far end.

1st question - Are you pulling slow 60' times because of your cam? That's my guess. You've lots some grunt down low off the line.
Your car is in need of a good transmission tune. The tranny tune will increase shift speeds and firmness. The converter will not necessarily increase shift speeds and firmness - that's the tranny tune. If anything, the converter may soften up your shifts at higher speeds. But with proper tuning, the converter will give you the torque you need to get off the line fast. With your mods (cam+ converter, drag radials) you should be 60' in the 1.6x range and running high 11s @ 114 - 115 mph or so. I would suggest at least a 3200 stall for your setup. If you were F.I. you could go lower, but with your stage 3 cam, I'd go at least 3200. |

You should post a whole slip and describe how you launch the car.
