One of the icons of this country for sure. NOBODY hasn't heard of him wether they knew what his name meant or not they all heard of him.

I had heard the name 'Shelby' so much growing up that I assumed he was dead in the early 80s.

I Googled him about 7 years ago for no particular reason.

Definitely a legend.

Very well said... R.I.P Carroll...:(

EDIT: Although it is a very sad day, it really makes me happy to see everyone here is showing respect to the man... Mr Shelby, whether you like him or not, like his cars or not, he truly was an icon in the automotive industry. He had many great accomplishments and will forever be a huge part in history when it comes to muscle cars.

Im sure even with his passing his legend will live on for many many years to come...

Thank you all at Camaro5 for being so respectful and rallying behind Mr. Carroll Shelby and his accomplishments...

I will always be a fan of the man, his dream, his work.
My brothers and I grew up with posts of GT40s, GT350s/GT500s, Vipers, and other cars that Shelby had a hand in.

RIP Carroll Shelby.

As an avid Ford and Mustang enthusiast, this is day-ruining news.

You would be hard-pressed to find someone who had a bigger impact on the industry.

No real words for this one. R.I.P to the biggest and best automotive legend I've ever heard of.

Fun read. I didn't know hardly anything about him.

This was interesting.

Shelby wanted to build his own car. His first attempt, which tried to marry an Italian body from Scaglietti with Chevrolet Corvette running gear, faltered when General Motors management nixed the deal.

Shelby could have been a GM guy.
