If we can figure out ahead of time which pit stop we'll be making before hitting Little Rock, I can see if he can meet us there to make sure everyone sees him and knows who he is.

Marsha and I are driving up to Indy for the 500 in the next couple of weeks and plan on doing a little scouting along the way for gas stops. We will take a look on the south side of Little Rock for a good place to stop and meet up with your friend.

I make the drive on I30/I40 thru Little Rock stopping in Memphis (heading to KY) twice a year. A couple of thoughts for the planners.

There isn't a true rest area near Little Rock heading eastbound. There is one at mm93, but that's well west of Little Rock.

A decent exit on the west side of LR is at Geyser Springs Rd. There is a large Shell station at the corner with good parking. Right behind it is a hotel (used to be a Hampton Inn but I think it has changed names) that could hold spillover parking.

When going thru LR, take the loop going south of downtown by the airport. Do not go thru downtown, even if your GPS says to. It's Loop 440, several miles past the Geyser Springs Rd exit.

There is not much on the east side of LR after Loop 440 connects with I40 east. So if you need food and gas, get it on the west side of LR.

I used to think the truck traffic on I10 thru Texas was bad. That was before I began traveling regularly on I40 thru Arkansas. It will be tough keeping a Camarovan together thru Arkansas.

I typically leave Houston around 8:30am heading N/NE on I59 thru east Texas. I easily get to Memphis around 5 to 6pm without pushing it too hard. Depending on stops and how fast you guys drive......I'd shoot for leaving no later than 8:30am from Houston.

the only problem with that is we (the SA and Houston folks) are headed to the Dallas/Fort Worth area and meeting up with everyone from the North and people that have come from the WEST......then take off on I-30 from there, so something tell me we will be leaving VERY early from Houston on the 31st.

Great Info...

The leave time from Dallas will determine most of the rest of the times. Once we find an early afternoon stop for food like we did last year we will know exactly when to leave Dallas. The buffet style walk through worked very well last year.

Going thru Dallas will add about 120 miles to the trip +/-. But it will all be Interstate vs the east Texas small town traffic lights, etc. Might only add an hour to 1 1/2 hours to the trip.....again, depending on stops.

Bug/Chip protection

Not sure if I should have started another thread so please forgive me for asking. Is anybody doing anything about bug/rock chip protection for the trip to Indy? I have a black car and seems like I hit every bug out there especially after its been washed. Also I'm not sure what my front end will look like when we arrive. I'm mainly concerned about rock chips/dings. It is only a year old and its starting to look battered. I don't normally drive farther than SA or Houston so this long trip will take its toll I'm sure. So I'm wondering if a bra is a worthwhile investment or just go naked. Not sure that a clear bra would be worth it at this point unless I get the front end redone which is out of the picture currently. Thx.

There's a few options here. A leather bra like you said, clear bra, or I have seen some that will go to the dealer and get that white vinyl tape they use for shipping car's... this is the option that I am going to use as I will be using it for the drive up and also some for my rear quarters on drag day.
