Help...I think my dealer is trying to play me

OK so I placed my order this past thursday, or thought I did. The salesman I was speaking to wasn't there and he told me to talk to his partner. His partner directed me to talk to the floor manager, which was a schmuck right off the bat. Well in speaking to him and him trying to get me to pay over MSRP here is what he mentioned.

He would sell the car to me at MSRP BUT if someone came in and wanted to pay over MSRP for it, my order would be put on hold and the sucker would take priority over me. Now, he told me that they had some control on their side because they could set priorities for orders, he said but hey there is a chance that no one else will order so you will fall into the 3 allocations we have left.

He built the car on workbench, printed it out, had me initial every option I selected, and after that he told me that the system was down for scheduled maintenance and he could not submit the order, but it would be put through the next day. He printed out the summary of the order for me and I left my deposit.

On the summary it says

"Review the vehicle configuration information in order to ensure that it is correct. If you need to make a change click "Back" to return to configure a New Vehicle Select Options Screen. Click "Submit As Preliminary Order" to submit this configuration as a preliminary order. Click "Save In Stored Configurations" in order to store this configuration. Click "Cancel" to cancel the entire configuration."

So I know the order was not submitted. I talked to another dealer today who told me that there is no such thing as being able to change priority on the orders placed, once its placed, its in line, PERIOD. When they place orders they turn the computer around and show their customers when they click SUBMIT and you walk out of there with an order number. He said if the system was down for maintenance he would NOT have even been able to build the car. He said he got me.

Am I getting screwed here?

If the dealer is telling you upfront what he is going to do and you still place the order, you have answered your own question.

YES you are!! Same thing happend to me. Walk away and find a person that will help you. I called every dealer in a 300 mile radius and found one close that sold me MSRP a car some one bailed on. I went from complete hassle maybe a car by Dec. to awsome service and car should be delivered to dealer any day!!

Yea, well the problem is he is the only one within 150 miles of me that still has allocations and is willing to sell at MSRP under those damn terms. Another guy told me they just bought a GMC dealership in the same area and that GM put no restraint on them as far as Camaro orders go, from what I understand EVERY dealer either has an allocation or not

Anyone know about the order priority thing?

Good dealers have transportation covered for you. My GT500 was bought from 400 miles away, and delivered in a covered flatbead for $220. always look remote if you feel you are getting screwed locally. Good luck.

So If I were to call tomorrow and receive an order number, does that mean that I am within their allocations?

Do yourself a favor. Hear me now, believe me later. I wasted a 2 months w/ stress on top. Grab a few beers, sit on your couch, and start smilling and dailing! You will find what you need. If you are getting that attitude from the start, it will only get worse.

How did you go about doing the paperwork? Using a fax? Was yours a order or did they have it on hand?

Get MSRP in writing and place the order. If he has initial allocation available you will get your car this summer. The way it sounds, you might get your priority bumped 2 times at most. Not that bad of a deal if I understand it right as it could add maybe 2 weeks if it happens at all?

If you don't have a number, your car has not been put in the system. I would find a different dealer. Several have had their allocations increased. Find a dealership that has a large volume of sales and see if GM has been able to increase their allotted numbers.

You can order you car from a different dealership and have it "drop shipped" to a dealer in your area.

I live in New York City and ordered my car from a dealer in Buffalo, NY (aprox 380 miles). Don't limit yourself to a local dealer. Order somewhere else and make a roadtrip out of it.
