It would have evened out more in the 1/4 mile than to 60 mph. However I believe that the magazines corrected the times (possibly trap speed as as well) because of the increased engine power due to conditions, but I don't think there was anything done to account for the loss of grip.

Most people wont give the Mustang props but it deserves it. I give Ford props for keeping the Mustang fairly light weight even though the HP is on the short side. Stock for stock the GT500 Cobra is the king and will likely be unless GM gets it ass out of the massive hole its in right now.
Long live the Mustang,Long live the Camaro and long live the Challenger.

Both were brand new cars with less than 1000 miles on the clock and running in as-delivered trim. One was an auto w/3.31 gears and the other was a manual with 3.73 gears. Best time I saw on the auto was 13.6 @ 102.6; best on the manual was 13.36@ 103.4 DA that evening was ~2024 Using the calculator to correct for DA, that would put the manual car at 13.049 @ 106.849 MPH. I've yet to see any trim level of Camaro at that track year-to-date for comparison purposes. Last edited by garagelogic; 05-25-2009 at 11:10 PM. |

IMO (stock vs stock AND mod for mod):
GT500>Camaro SS>>Mustang GT this is at the track and the strip. gt500 puts out better numbers than the camaro, but the camy puts out even more substantial numbers vs the gt. The mustang internals are limited to around 500 HP, with the camy's being about 650ish and the GT500 being far above that. Give the gt a supercharger and it makes ~500 BHP, give the maro a supercharger and it makes ~590 BHP... the mustang still hasn't made up enough HP to overcome the gap, and with the results ive seen, the camaro will have a MUCH better torque curve... leaving the gt behind from the getgo. Not bashing the gt, just trying to figure out the pecking order ![]() Edit: Best GT time ive seen: ~13.35 Best Camy time: ~12.9 (Also note that a 12.5 has been done with nothing else but CAI) Im willing to bet we see a few ~12.8 bone stock (Especially after new gears next year)... and with CAI, a TVS, and maybe headers im thinking the camaro will be a tremendous daily driving 11 sec car! |

The mustang has the advantage of being alot lighter, so lower horsepower numbers wont nessasarly make it slower. As for posted numbers, I think we need to see the 2 cars at the track at the same time so we can make real assesments of the cars track times, with real world drivers that know their cars. I'm all Camaro but I wish GM could of found a way to make this car atleast 300lbs lighter. The Camaro is only half a sec quicker as per the magazines and it makes over 100 horsepower more.
