Got to drive a ZL1!
A co-worker of mine ordered a ZL1 right around the same time as I ordered my 2SS. I tracked his car right along with mine and he finally took delivery of it last Wednesday (5/16). Needless to say, he took Thursday and Friday off work, but took time out to bring it by work Friday afternoon for all of us to drool over!
Being a fellow Camaro owner, he offered to let me take if for a spin around the block. At first I was reluctant to do it. I know that other than my wife, I had absolutely no intentions of letting anyone drive my new car with less than 100 miles on it! I was also worried about how I would feel about my own car after driving the biggest, baddest Camaro. But, I put all that aside and took him up on his generous offer! I'm happy to report that I am still very glad I decided to go with the 2SS! Now don't get me wrong! The ZL1 is a freakin MONSTER! When that supercharger comes up on boost, that SOB pulls HARD! No doubt, much harder than the 2SS. I didn't get much of chance to throw it into any corners very hard, so I can't really compare its handling capabilities. The fact is, you can definitely feel the 154 HP difference between the ZL1 and the 2SS, but for me, and I'm sure for many of you, the capabilities of a 2SS FAR exceed what I need the car for on a daily basis. For the added cost of the car itself, maintenance, fuel, etc., I just can't justify it. So even though my little trip in a ZL1 was awesome, to say the least, I'm very glad I saved the extra 20Gs! |

Well duh. The only thing that's different is the supercharger and a couple other minor things. Nothing special. I like the looks of my SS and all I need is 430 HP. I meant the average person can't even tell the difference between the SS and the ZL1 . Tbh though I love having a Camaro next to me. Don't care if it's a v6, v8, (would care if it's a ZL1 bc I would kiss it). Camaro's are lovely

I'm scared to drive one, even with my mods I'll be mad I could have saved the cash I put into the car to make it fast... With the execption of spray of-course.

I just sold my boosted Corvette that had 500 rwhp and pulled like a monster. Took it down the track a couple of times pulling 124 mph at 11.7 on street tires and a novice at the tree. I had a great time with that car but I love the streetability of my new LS3 6-speed Camaro!!!

I love my SS and so far it's lived up to my expectations and my capabilities. I could easily afford to own a ZL1, but in my case, it'd be an overkill. For cruising and an occasional spirited run in the mountains, the SS is all I need. Since I don't do the drag strip and auto-X type events, owning a ZL1 would be a waste of good machinery on me.

This is a joke right ... The two cars are a night and day difference and there is much more than a few minor things. Yes the average person can't tell the difference between the two car, but then again they have a problem telling the difference between a Mustang and Camaro.

I'm happy with my SS and don't see a reason to jump up to the ZL1 (just me). I like not having a car payment. If money was no object I might feel differently. No doubt the ZL1 is the most awesome Camaro ever but like dweeler, I'm loving my SS.

Yeah, but some of us SS owners are willing to admit that we really wish we had a ZL1. I love my SS and its got plenty of power, but I'd give my left nut for a ZL1! Now, if I can just find some rich relative to put me in their will........

I would also compliment him on his purchase and politely thank him for trusting me behind the wheel of his awesome car. I would never be envious, feel inferior, feel I had to justify what I have in any way, insult him childishly on the forums behind his back, or secretly hope the ZL1 owner would join a certain "camp" for some petty bashing or revenge. |
