Turn bulb out so soon

Has anyone had this happen so early, as of today I have had my 2012 IOM SS/RS convertible for 5 weeks, and last friday my front right turn signal went out. I had the car for 31 days and the turn signal went out. I haven't looked yet because its been raining since then so Ive been driving my truck, but how hard is it to replace the bulb yourself (do you need to remove the whole light fixture?), or should I just let the dealer worry about it

To replace the bulbs are extremely easy, just a twist and the bulb comes out of the socket and then squeeze the edges and you can pull the bulb out of the harness.

But, as your car is so new, just take it to the dealership and they should replace everything under warranty for you so no cost.

I agree with the dealership idea! Your vehicle may be covered under warranty as long as it falls within the parameters. Your local dealership should be able to run your VIN and check for any applicable coverage. If you have any other questions, please feel free to contact me via PM.

Seems like a fluke to me, take it by the dealer, if he is a good one they will replace it no questions asked.

Had the same thing happen to me. Make sure the dealer uses the correct bulb! Mine did not. I called them on it, and did end up getting the correct bulb in the end. See my thread about it here:

Better than my ECM failure after 2 days ownership!! I took mine in and they fixed it under warranty!! Some parts slip thru the QC from where they were made then make it to the assembly line. Crap happens!!

Bulb burn out has been a problem with a number of owners on C5. My rear ones went out in less than a month, and the dealer refused to replace them under warranty. I replaced them, and now they are out again. No big deal since they are cheap and easy to replace. BUT...perhaps there is a weather seal issue. (Maybe some of the dealers need new weather seals in their brains. Bumper to bumper means just that.)

Same here, I've replaced 2 rear bulbs so far with under 25K. Could this be a voltage problem?

Nissan/Mercury mini-van years ago seemed to have a nasty habit of burning out rear bulbs prematurely also. After helping a friend replace his driver's rear bulbs, I started noticing a lot of models with burned out driver side bulbs also. Just seemed odd it was always the driver's side rear lights.

Hmm...3 month old 2012 45th and just last week had the same right front turn signal burn out. (At least is was neat to see the center console come up and say 'Check Right Front Turn Signal'.

Dealer replaced under warranty - not questions asked. Got the air bag reprogram recall done while I was there.

If it wasn't for a pokey slow tech, I probably could have gotten out of the shop in 30 minutes instead of 75.

If my dealer wouldn't have covered under warranty, I'd would be discussing it with GM (only one dealer within 50 miles - so not an option to go somewhere else)

I had my 2001 Camaro for 9 years and never had a bulb go out. Take it to the dealer.

Remember, the tech gets paid by the hour and the book. if it takes 10 min, and the book says an hour...he will take the hour.

Any idea what the N stands for, I just pulled the bulb out of mine and it was a 3457NAK from sylvania, at Advance the sylvania catalog said the camaro was a 3457AK (no N), I just replaced the one bulb with the 3457AK (no N) and can see no difference with the other bulb which is still the 3457NAK. Takes less time and hassle to replace it myself than make an appointment and go all the way to the dealer and wait for them to do it(it's only a $5 bulb).

Just a note for those changing these bulbs out, do not touch the glass with your bare fingers. If you do clean them off with alcohol before using them. Oil from your skin will make them overheat and shorten their life.

I think the "don't touch the glass" only applies to halogen bulbs because they burn so much hotter. I've never heard this on a house hold light bulb or a regular automotive bulb.
