Ford is upgrading all there trannies to 6speeds. I know I saw it quoted somewhere, but dont know where. With the engine, brake, tranny upgrades and the regulation complicance it will gain more than 50lbs. It will gain weight, how much is the question.
I'm thinking the tranny, engine and brakes will gain < 50 lbs. The added safety will probably tack on another 100 lbs, but that's still a couple years away.

Ford says that its Cleveland (Ohio) Engine Plant Number 1 began production today of its turbocharged and direct-injected family of engines. Called EcoBoost in Ford vernacular, the powertrains are designed to meet more stringent emissions and fuel economy standards while delivering the power of larger engines.

Production in Cleveland had been idled in 2007; the automaker brought back about 250 employees to start building the engines. First opened more than 50 years ago, the plant was the manufacturer’s first engine plant in Ohio. After initially producing Ford’s first overhead valve engine (the Lincoln V8), it has produced the famous “5.0″ 302-cubic-inch V8s of the 1980s and 1990s, as well as the “Cleveland” family of V8s used in the 1970s and early 1980s.

The new 3.5-liter V6 to be built in Cleveland, the first to get the direct injection/turbocharging treatment, will see duty initially in the 2010 Ford Taurus SHO and Flex and Lincoln MKS and MKT

next step is putting it in ford mustang

I think I'll actually wait until they release the specs before I decide to get the Camaro or Mustang. If Ford can make the GT put out 400 horses and weigh about the same as the 2010 Mustang, they could have a real winner on their hands.

Ok.

A and B) It's a N/A 5.0L, which means it's going to have to be considerably high c/r to achieve those numbers...or high revving...both of which will mean it's going to be heavily tuned (expensive to engineer) and probably require high octane. It also means unless it is direct injection (is it?) it's not going to handle very much boost without lowering the c/r (decreasing the factory numbers back down to normal in the first place).

C) If you actually belive a new car cna come out without weighing more and being more expensive then you are in the same pipedream that Camaro owners were before the numbers were released on our car.

Truthfully, I'm not sure they will immediately. My guess is the DI motors are around the corner... But who knows what R and D will be. Not a lot of extra money for that kind of stuff.

My point?

GM can make a car that doesnt out perform the Vette while still ensuring it outperforms all its competition. Just because, say a Z28 can run with a GT500, doesnt mean its in Vette territory.
I fail to understand this logic....The Corvette is a car in a class by itself. When I look it up on sites, it is basically in a supercar class. It is not Ford fault that GM may not produce a z28, which would actually compare to the Gt500.

Vette Base coupe $48,565+950 destination.
Base coupe btw will not win against a GT500. And I have yet to see a NEW vette less than 50k. At least here in S.Fla

Vette Z06 coupe $73,925+950 destination
Faster yes. Look at the base price tag, and we know they go for more than that.

Vette Zr1 $103,970+950 destination.
W O W

These are prices I got just by googling "Corvette pricing."

Ok I know the fanboys here will go "well the KR is over a 100k !!" Yes..sadly it is. That car is a blight on the ford blue oval. In truth it was nice to do, but someone at ford was smoking a huge fatty when they priced it out. Only a collector will ever buy that car, but it did serve its purpose. The GT500 2010 is basically a KR.

So as we compare please stop saying a Vette is faster !!! Yes...we know. I think anyone who knows anything about a car knows that. But last time I checked, the Vette is not a pony car. Never was. Not even in the 60's...The GT40 was the only car Ford made to be termed in the supercar class, and well we all knowthat did not last long.

I agree with this logic completely.

However there are a Few Mustang guys around here that insist that the GT500 be compared to the SS because the are the top trim for each model.

Which seems to be a bit convenient for me.

I like the way you see it much better. Makes more sense. Price is a factor when comparing cars. It has to be considered. Chevy doesn't really have anything for the GT500. Just as Ford Doesn't really have anything for the ZO6 or ZR1.

Edit: Sorry for the off topic post.

Back to the 5 Oh...

Doesnt matter. It might matter to you that the Corvette shouldn't be compared to the GT500, but if you were in the market for a car in the 40-50k price range it would be a different story. You'd look at all the strong competitors, and that includes both of them.

I dont quite know if you understand what your arguing, or that you took what I was saying the right way...

First off, the base corvette most certainly owns the GT500. Its just as fast, (which is basically the only thing the GT500 does...) while having superior handling, and better MPG.

And my Main point being GM could make a Z28, in the 40k region, with somewhere around 475-500hp without REALLY stepping on the Corvette's toes.

yes mostly collectors bought the gt 500 kr and all 1,571 ever produced were sold. the gt500 kr is a limited edition yes the 2010 has the performance of the KR but is not an official KR version with makes big differences in collectability.

The bullet is a limited edition run of Mustangs sold in either a limited edition 'Bullet Green' or 'Black'.

Basically the Bullet is what the 2010 mustangs got. New cold air intake, some suspension tweaks, strut bar, different exhaust, as well as some interior upgrades... and its limited edition so you know EVERYONE is going to want one...
