Solo Exaust and State Inspections

I really like all I have heard about the Solo Exaust systems, but NC is tough on Saftey Inspections. Any feedback from NC residents on the muffler delete systems appreciated. I have a fear of not passing the NC Inspection with the Solo muffler delete system. Thanks...Larry

I can't help with the NC question but for California, as long as your new exhaust doesn't remove or relocate the catalytic converters, you are okay from an emissions standpoint. We don't have inspections other than that. So the only thing you'd have to worry about legally are local noise regulations (which can vary by city or county).

As far as state inspections go, they only look emmissions. Seeing that anything behind the cats doesn't affect emmissions, you'll be fine.

Do states even do the tail pipe test anymore? As long as you aren't throwing codes or have a CEL and have legit looking catalytic converters with the O2 sensors hooked up then you're fine.

^^^This

Here in OH, the law says a vehicle has to have a muffler. So, I interpret that to mean that straight pipes are illegal. However, if you get the Mach XL system, it does have a muffler, just not at the rear of the car. It's actually in the middle. I think it's an x-pipe and muffler combined.

You are right, the little muffler in the middle of the Mach XL system is a perforated x-pipe with packing around it. I asked about it when I ordered it

Do they check your emissions for you state inspection down there? It's two separate inspections in VA. I passed state inspection last year if a muffler delete.

Yes, NC checks emissions and safety. Car must have a muffler to pass safety. Some are getting by without one, but shops I have called say they wont pass with no muffler....

Even though I get irritated sometime about living in the middle of nowhere, lol, I don't have to deal with any of that in Wyoming.
