I do think there is way too much talking here ahead of actually seeing a real on track comparison.

I have a friend of mine that has an 07 Shelby GT500. We met up at a local cruise night last evening. He was gawking at my car so I threw him the keys and said "let's go." He loved it and wants to buy one. This guy is a car guy but has had lots of Mustangs. His current 07 puts down 680 HP to wheels. He threw me his keys when we got back from the drive in my ZL1. I threw them back to him and said "no, you drive. I want to feel what this thing has got." And.....unreal is all I can say. Maybe one of the fastest cars that I have ever been in. This car puts down about 80 HP more to the wheels than the 2013. I figure my ZL1, being a manual, puts down about 510-520 at the wheels. No matter what, the 2013 Shelby is a real performer. Kudos to those that have one. I am sure it is an awesome car.
Your car looks pretty cool!

If I were to ever buy a 2013 GT500, I would get the base car with ZERO options. I'm a drag racer and street driver type, and thus the extra cooling, bigger sway bars, etc, would just be extra weight and expense to me.

I'm also of the opinion that the VAST majority of people (here and elsewhere) can't come close to the limits of ANY car, to say nothing of the GT500, ZL1, etc, so much of these types of conversations are little more than chest-beating from each side. That said, itt would also seem likely (though it is pure conjecture and speculation on my part) that the ZL1 would allow the average driver to get closer to the limits than most other vehicles (talking handling limits, of course).

Who in Houston sold you one at MSRP? Most are at rediculous pricing right now.....believe me, I checked.

I went to my Ford Racing rep and he couldn't help me with a GT500, but could get me a 302 LS at invoice.......if I agreed not to sell it for a year. Has me thinking. But my current rides are faster than the LS on the track already.

Why do you think I stick around here. It's the most accurate site I've found for all things Camaro and Mustang.

I agreed with you completely. I did however order the SVTPP mainly because of resale value. I think it will be much more appealing to someone down the road if it has that option.

This is very true. SVTPP & Electronics are a must IMO. I've sold a couple of Shelbys over the last few months, both equipped with EP but only one had SVTPP. The one without SVTPP always got the "If it had the SVTPP I'd be all over it" comments. It did sell, just not for nearly as much.

You can go to KB's website. There is an article where they dyno'd a car on a chassis dyno and then pulled the engine and put it on an engine dyno. They did several tests. It was all 15% drive train loss +/-1%.

The 2013 GT500 is a legit 700 HP car.
No. It's a 662 hp car - as validated on engine dyno with SAE certification.

From SAE:
"To tout power and torque ratings as "SAE-certified," engine manufacturers must have an SAE qualified witness watch over the entire testing procedure to ensure that it is conducted in conformity to SAE standard J1349."

I can understand that....its simply that I get a car for me first, the way I want it (which is why my Vette is a no-option car). If it hurts resale somewhere down the road (and I typically hang on to my cars for a long time), well, so be it. I'm getting for me to drive....not for resale.

This thread, and people posting in it is getting riduclous. Be respectful people. It's not that hard, even if you have a difference of opinion.

Not at all - I screwed the pooch on that one! Thanks for the correction! Using combined for all, it would be 14 and 16 for the ZL1, and 18 for the GT500.
