Do I need a radar detector?
Picked up Nasty on Thursday and already have 600 miles. This baby has more than met my expectations. Problem is I have a hard time keeping her under the speed limit... Got a rush yesterday on the Interstate twice when cops going the other way turned on their blue lights. Of course I thought they were for me. Luckily for me, some unlucky mustang owners probably got written up! Any suggestions on a radar detector/fuzz buster?

I've heard different takes on these....Either when they are "needed", its too late anyway and they've already radared you, and when you do get pulled over and they see you have a radar unit, you're not given any discretion....or...just slow down!!..lol

Dont get one, they are a waste of money. Just know your cop spots and you will be fine. Also if you do get pulled over and you have it most cops will give you a hard time about it.

There new laser guns can get you without your detector knowing it. Unless you spend thousands on a top of the line kit then it's not worth it. Plus if you do get pulled over I have herd stories of people getting tickets for that type of equipment in there cars. I'm sure it depends on the state though. Also if you have a good gps unit they have uploads for them that warn you about speed cams and stuff like that, there all marked by users and approved by the company. They won't tell you about cops that stop and wait though.

Don't speed, it's cheaper.
You could use your speed alarm on the car if you really can't control yourself. |

Yesterday on a Ct Interstate I saw two different guys pulled over by large brown State Police SUV's. Both SUVs had no markings, tinted windows, etc. They drive in the center lane @ 75 (in a 65)- when you blow by them @ 80+, YOUR TOAST.
And like 90503 said, when your caught with a radar detector there's no way your getting away with a warning.

No...probably would give u the idea that u are protected but in reality you are just as susceptible to be pulled over

When the posted sign states Speed Limit 70 mph thats exactly what it means! You can still have fun and enjoy your Camaro. Just saying.

My biggest ticket ever was received while using the Passport detecter...supposedly one of the two best! The "Instant on" radar guns practically make detectors useless. That little indiscretion cost me $265. I don't use them now and rarely go much higher than 5 mph over...unlikely to get a ticket at that rate. Just do yourself a favor and drive pretty close to the speed limit and you'll be ok. Save the speeding for the road course or drag strip.
