Any reason 305's on stock rims would make me angry......

........... when it comes to handling on stock RS rims?

I was all set to buy 305's but I ran across some info making mention of a wider tire will help with traction but degrade handling?

So I ask the dedicated forum followers...... whats your opinion?

I was going to use the P-zeros 305/35/20

For the record....I saw ton of posts on what fits and I see the chart. I was more interested in someone who has the tire mounted and could tell me if there was any negatives he saw/felt.

My car handles just fine using wider wheels. The 9" wheels are too narrow IMO for a 305/35 and due to this, they may not handle as well. Only down side to the P-Zero in 305/35 is their price....last time I checked aprox $560ea

From all I have heard tires perform better on wider wheels. I would think that all that excessive sidewall bulge created my mounting a 305/35 on a 9" wheel would negatively effect handling when cornering.

I can't find the thread at the moment, but yes, wider on a narrow wheel degrades handling. The sidewall will flex/roll during cornering. You actually want the tread width the same or slightly smaller than the wheel width for best handling.

There is a thread that talks about this. i believe nine ball said performance cars will run a wider wheel than needed just to improve handling. I showed a picture of a Viper that had the rim sticking out further than the tire. Although it might not look as good, its helps with the handling. I would like to hear from anyone that has this size of tire on the stock rim.

My 305/35/20s shipped today, I am not worried about handling too much. I am just praying that the sidewalls don't blow up when I squeeze them on the 9in rim.

I don't think they will blow up, just bulge a lot...

I used to have tires that bulged on the rear, the wider contact patch had better traction but handled like crap.

An yes. That's what I wanted to know. Sidewall bulge = poor handling.

Thx. I am not against new rims I just think most are a down grade.

I will keep looking for a tire rim combo.

I think you would be better off going with at least a 10" wide wheel with the 305s just to make sure that you get a flat contact pad and no uneven wear issues.

I think the 305s need 10 to 11" wheels. They will look like a doughnuts on the stock wheel and it isn't safe.

I am running 315 x 35x 20 Nitto Invos on the stock wheels and haven't noticed any problems. I would imagine there is a loss on cornering from what I read but I am not into road racing so I haven't noticed that. Wider rims would probably be the best way to go but for now these are working OK and I do get better traction @ the dragstrip.

Can you get them on yes. Is it recommended no. When you overstrech a tire you are actually hurting the tire performance.
