Attack On Owners Other Cars
My ordered 6M SS will be right at home with my Prius (great car), Mercedes Cl600, and Harley Deuce. Why do people who have never driven any of these feel the need to attack other owners cars? Odd.

the law most likely will have exceptions when it comes to sports cars and such. and on the other hand, it will only have a positive impact in my opinion. it will push these companies to start inventing engines with better fuel economy. and like someone else here said that with today's technology by 2016, i am sure they will come up with at least 35mpg. right now, the camaro gets 29mpg, so no worries, Camaro will be around for a long time.

Hopefully, because I want one...
And if not...I'll get a 2014 or 2013 and paint it white and have 2 red fender stripes and the plate will read LAST SS even though it would be 2 or 3 years old. |

Well.......I do believe the muscle car will not last through this. I have a highly modded 97 Trans Am and it is already extremely difficult to find parts for. I plan on keeping my 2010 SS for a very long time. My wife has a Honda Civic Hybrid and it actually is a good trip car. It drives like a luxury car and we can go all the way from NC to FL barely needing any gas. It's nice when you have 1 muscle car in the garage and another on the way. But anyway......I dont think we will have many cars like this after 2016. If they are willing to get rid of Pontiac, then no one is truly safe here.

so we need the EPA to allow testing in a way which it will get the best possible milage (supposedly 100+) but some are saying they may require the gas engine to remain runing the whol time. this causes the milage to be in the 40s

I don't think so. It's a physical impossibility for the Pruis now (it shuts down the ICE at a stop) and many cars are planned for engine-shutdown features in the near future. Determining MPG for the VOLT will be interesting. The first 30-or-so miles will be infinite MPG.

The big brother paranoia in this thread is hilarious!
Yes there will be muscle cars in 2016. - technology advancements - reduce weight/lighter materials - its a fleet average, not a model average 35mpg is very reasonable, even by today's standards. It might mean a bit of decontenting -- e.g. cloth instead of leather seats, engines will be aluminum, etc. Also keep in mind that there's a harmonization of EPA, California, and federal emissions standards as a result of this process. The auto manufacturers only have 1 target to hit, not 3 separate ones. I have tremendous confidence that Big 3 auto still have the engineering skills to succeed under these circumstances. And BTW, reducing dependency upon foreign oil is both good for the environment *and* good foreign policy -- no point giving good US and Canadian $ to middle eastern countries to fund the next extremist group. |

Hell, I had a '74 Vega, it was an aluminum block. I had a '05 Duramax, it was aluminum. Aluminum engines are here now, not something from the future.

I wonder if Horse & Buggy manufacturers had discussions like this when the first cars showed up?
