I just bought something like this, it was under $10, can't wait to use it. I've been using my HTC EVO for Nav on trips.

90% of the time, in my pocket. If I need it out, usually just in the cup holder. I dont need to use it while driving.

It seems blasphemous to affix anything to the interior of these cars. I literally winced as I read this thread. Blasphemy!

Well there has been a certain plaice I have been told to put it, but we won't go there.
I usually just keep it in my pocket. Less tempted to use it while driving.

I have a 'Universal Dashboard Mount' from TomTom, which is just a weighted pad with a suction cup disc in the center. Mounted on it I have a 'Kensington Quick-Release Car Mount.' Got both from Amazon.
Keeps my iPhone between the 1 and 2 o'clock position, just behind my steering wheel. I can see the GPS, the HUD, and road all in line of sight. I slip my iPhone in and out of it easily to use GPS. I put it on my dash when needed. Just toss it in the back seat when not needed.
