Pulled over 3 times in 4 months by DPS...

How many of y'all get pulled over for blacked out lights? Just got pulled over last night for the third time (third warning, but this kid seemed to know the law a little better). This definitely didn't happen in Houston, it's a little different in Round Rock area. Should I just rip these vinyls off?

Live in RR as well: seen dps, local popo and Wilco be hitting the blackouts hard. Dps seems to be especially bad.

REMOVE THEM.........

ok.....its just MHO.....BUT, making your tail lights HARDER to see is one of the stupidest things I have ever seen ANYONE do. Its hard enough to get people to pay attention, and people make it harder to see them.....sorry, it just doesn't make good sence.

Not long ago I came up on a Blacked out 300.....as we were exiting the highway, and when he stepped on the brakes to slow down, I could BEARLY see that his tail lights were lit up. THAT is just ASKING to be reareneded.

sorry.....end of my little rant.

3 options:

1. Take them off (I wouldnt do that personally)
2. keep your headlights on, and your tails will be shining red at all times
3. get afterburners and have those on at all times, again so red is always showing

They are doing it for your safety and the safety of others. People that do these type things to their cars and drive them on the street are asking to be pulled over. Just take em off and you will have no problem. Breaking the law just trying to look cool is just plain dumb.

You're just asking to have your butt taken to the cleaners should you cause/be in a wreck.

I agree completely. Why make your card harder to see?

Yeah... they're not that dark... not to where you can't see them or they aren't noticeable. When I installed them last year I did so in the nighttime so I could see (the little) difference they made. When I step on the brakes they're just fine, but they're obviously too dark for the cops around here!

Austinjames is correct to an extent, as long as red is showing you're good. By Texas law, the lens should be red and emitting a red light visible by no less than 500-1,000 feet (i can't remember which number it is). I'm a law enforcement officer and I had blacked out tails on my old personal vehicle. I didn't get pulled over a whole lot for them, but when it came time to get it inspected, the shops around town wouldn't let it pass because they were being cracked down on. Whether if you know it or not, most of your larger counties (Dallas, Tarrant, Bexar, Williamson, Travis, etc...) actually have a department devoted to going undercover trying to catch shops passing vehicles when they shouldn't be. And trust me, the agent/officer doesn't even have to be there. He can monitor it all from a remote link since all inspections stations (except for really small counties with no emissions regulations) typically use the computer diagnostic systems to inspect the vehicles.
