Ambient Lighting Description

For those who are wandering what the dealer installed ambient lighting package looks like--

I took delivery of my car today. I had the ambient lighting option for the cup holder and foot wells installed. I am really happy with it. It is turned on by a push-button switch in the console. What's really clever is that it 'toggles' from OFF, to faint blue (matching door panel highlights), to brighter blue, to faint red, to brighter red, back to OFF. You can also select an automatic mode that cycles it through each color selection for five seconds each, contiuously. It's a great effect!

Pictures added in post below.

King of surprising that they wouldn't show it at the site.

This is the same ambient lighting package that GM has been offering for awhile now, correct?

Here are two pics of the blue and red ambient lighting taken of the passenger side foot well. It's pretty difficult taking a picture with so little light. But you can get some kind of idea what it looks like. It is somewhat brighter for real than what it appears like in the picture. Really neat option. But I don't know if it is worth the $400+ price tag.[

I have it installed on my ZL1, the button is in the cup holder area, but how do you make the colors cycle? I have been pressing the button to change the colors and brightness. Didn't know there was an automatic color changing option.

To get the two shades of blue and two shades of red to keep cycling through each color, you have to select the "Automatic" mode by pressing and holding the button for at least four seconds. Pressing the botton again one time will cancel the cycling and turn the lighting off.

...it's a nice touch that ads to the ambience of the ride at night, a finishing touch to the experience of the interior that enhances it's mood and overall feeling. I have the option and find it to be an appropriate addition to my cars wow factor.

Mine is on back order from my dealer. Once my mechanic told me he had to tear apart the console to put it in, i'm thinking I might just keep it and not install it. I don't like the idea of drilling holes in my brand new car. My dealer never told me that they had to install it. Thought it was done in Canada. :(

its not that hard to install, Since I did not order my car, its one option my car did not have that I wanted. I ordered the kit from GM/ my local dealer about $330. Tim T&T performance and I installed them in less than 2 hours start to finish. The kit comes with templates to show where to drill the holes, I felt really comfortable doing the job. Just measure twice, drill once. lol WELL WORTH THE MONEY AND TIME AT NIGHT!!!

The dealer that installed mine said that the technician installing it mentioned it was not all that much of a job. But if you are a bit mechanically inclined, it would be much cheaper to order the kit from GM and install it yourself. All it is, is a few LED's, a push-button switch, a control module, and some wire harnesses. I would imagine there would be a good set of installation instructions included with the kit.
