I see several comments like this, but most of us get stuck in traffic behind soccer mom's or grandma's once in a while. So you are sitting there going no where fast and there is no point in winding out the engine, but you forget about skip shift because you normally do drive aggressively enough to avoid it. So you finally start to move and you try to put it into 2nd and it blocks you hard and you go WTF? It's so incredibly annoying. But it does help avoid the gas guzzler tax.

I'm wondering how many of you have had a manual V8 Camaro before? This wasn't around for 3G Camaros, but it certainly was for 4G F-bodies. I can't (for certain) remember if it was on my '94 Z28, but I know for sure it was on my 97 WS6 Formula, my 96 LT4 Vette, and my 01 Z06 Vette. The dongle for $25-$30 is simple to install. It is literally plug and play. Well, you do have to use a few zip-ties, but that's no big deal.

I would gladly do it. had 4 cars in a row where I had to shift gears, and now I'm driving an 07 Toyota Tundra RCSB 5.7L w/ 6spd Auto. I certainly like the auto - I hadn't had one since the 93 Silverado I once had.

I'm kinda curious about the 6spd auto in the Camaro. Is there much history on it yet (used in other platforms by GM)?

ok well since we are on the topic about shifting, i got a couple of questions about driving stick. first ive driven stick before, but never had a manual of my own to get familiar with evrything. first, is it ok to start off in second? or can that lead to messing something up? also skipping gears? will that mess anything up? also and please dont laugh cuz i seriously dont know, what is double clutching and what good/or bad does that do?

Guess you don't know anything about Corvette's since they'd had the CAGS since 1997...

You must have ton's of $$$ I for one don't want to pay the gas Guzzler tax whan all it takes is a:

1. Little more throttle
2. Shift into 3rd
3. Spend $20 and buy the by-pass

It appears that many of you did not come from Fbody's. Skipshift = THE SUCK but easy to get rid of.......I test drove a 98 WS6 and did not know that CAGS existed. I was driving the car and damn near busted the shifter trying to get it in gear. I told the sales dude man what the hell is wrong with this thing.................. he had no clue said he would have the shop check it out when we got back

Yes, if it doesn't stall then technically it's "ok"...but you're putting extra wear on the cluth riding it out longer.

Not at all.

For 95% of the people in the world in 99% of the situations...there is no such thing. For the average person it's a movie term.

well the only problem that can happen when starting out in second is if you keep the clutch in too long(releasing to slow) can cause excessive clutch wear, so just don't be to easy on the clutch, and it will be fine.

double clutch is were you press the clutch in to release it from gear let the clutch out while the shifter is in between gears the press the clutch back in to engage next gear. you have to do this really quickly so it does take practice

Double clutching was necessary on cars without syncros in order to try to get all the driveline parts at approximately the same speed before selecting another gear. It's no longer necessary on modern cars.

Ask about heel and toe, though.

Hehe...that's still the real deal. I've read only one review that mentioned it and it wasn't positive...anyone see good review on the pedal layout for heel-toe driving?
