I can see you guys living down south not needing them but up here in Montana, even with nothing but pavement driving, in one summer you will need to repaint your car from rock chips. Same here, in eastern WA there's almost always sand and grit and it's a lot of highway driving. The quarter flares have taken a lot of abuse for my paint.

If the chunky splash guards are too much, you could install the stealth versions like I got here: http://rpidesigns.com/shop/item.aspx?itemid=1815

I have put splash guards on almost every car, truck & SUV I have owned since 1985. IMO, Splash Guards would not look good at all on the 5th gen Camaro, which is why I have not even considered getting them for my Camaro.

I actually think they look kind of cool...but I don't have any paint chips in the spots they are supposed to protect....and I drive my car like crazy. I have about 40k miles at 70mph (highway speed) and have zero chips where they are supposed to protect. So I feel it's up to you for looks. If you like the way they look...keep 'em. If not....get rid of them because your car will be fine without them.

I wouldn't say their ugly (To each his own)...but it dos take away from the look of the car, looks kind of dated, but fro those who use them enjoy.
