Exhaust Pipes Uneven?
Hadn't noticed this since I got my car back in April but last night I noticed that the pipes on the left side sit up slightly higher than the right pipes. Is this normal and has anyone else noticed this or checked to see on theirs?

my Pypes came with defects, i replaced the right back pipe with a new one, it sort of fixed it, but i said to hell with it, thats what you get when you pay 400$ for cheap exhaust. Wont happen again.

I have seen this on a lot of cars. It wont affect performance or cause mechanical problems however it is an eye sore depending on how severe. It's partly a quality issue but could also manifest after cycles of heating and cooling of the exhaust. The repeated heating and cooling causing the metal to change shape slightly.

For mine it's like several centimeters difference that the right are lower than the left. What was your issue?

Not likely, since it's only cosmetic. Unless it was very noticeable at delivery where you could argue a manufacturer defect, or if it interferes with the safety or reliability of the vehicle. Silver lining, if you can see it that way is it's probably the best justification for you to purchase an aftermarket exhaust and perhaps enjoy some measure of performance gain. The ZL1 is the AK-47 of "sports" cars. Cheaply made but a lot of "bang" for the buck.

mine are uneven too. the furthest pipe to the right is the lowest and both right pipe are a hair lower than the left. could this be from launching hard that the torque pushes the right ones down?

I have a post in here about this. My left pipe was up too high and the right pipe was too low when the car arrived. I noticed it immediately when walking around the car. It wasn't subtile. I had the service department fix it as best they could before I took delivery of the car. It took a while, but their tech was able to adjust the exhaust hangers and get it almost even. He said there is no adjustment in the exhaust since it is one piece from the cats back. My left tip also sits back 1/2 inch more the right right side. I mentioned this to the service manager, but he said the other ZL-1 that came in after mine had level pipes, but the tips didn't extend the same amount, so he's saying it is normal. I propose it is a supplier quality issue with the exhaust system and there are obviously not any more unsold ZL1s around to compare it to yet.
I'd at least have your service department adjust the level. There are several pics on the site of ZL1s with the same problem. |

Has anyone had a resolution on this with the dealer? I took my car out over the weekend and noticed this as well. I'm sure it's nothing major but when you look for it...it is very noticeable.

There's no adjustment in the pipes from what I've seen. The tech was able to move my right tip up, but it isn't perfect. It looked like $%#! when I first saw the car. I noticed it the night before delivery and it took them 2 attempts and over an hour to adjust it. So much for the quality hold. You honestly would have better luck taking it to a muffler shop and seeing what they have to say. The dealer can't modify parts. Keep us posted.
