The shorties and high flows could be a good combination. You didn't try yours, did you?

Nah. I'm just saying that with SOLO's and my hybrid cai and stock manifolds I dynoed 403hp and 410tq with a stock tune. Mclark's results are certainly oin the realm of possibility. There is no way that shorties wouldn't have added a little something extra. Will LT's add more peak numbers and allow for better results from additional mods, of course.

If I were to pick between HF cats or shorties, I go HF, but that's just me.

I'm thinking best to worst would be:

  1. LTs with HF cats
  2. Shorties w/HF cats
  3. HF cats
  4. shorties
I've yet to see evidence that doing shorties along with hf cats provides much of an improvement over hf cats alone.

I first went with a cat back Flowmaster Outlaw 3 inch exhaust X-Pipe and even though people claim it doesn't add HP I can definitely say I felt a significant difference with power and sound. I experienced drone with the Outlaw exhaust but not horrible. Decel popping went from subtle to very loud. Second upgrade was a K&N CAI and along with the Outlaw exhaust there was a difference in both sound and additional power but I still wasn't completely happy until my latest upgrade which were Solo high flow cats. Let me tell you my car went from sounding mean to HOLY #&*^!!! When I go WOT it is extremely loud but in a good way. My fiancée doesn't complain about the drone anymore which is pretty much gone now. Not sure if it was the addition of the cats or making some readjustments while we had it up on the lift but I couldn't be more happy with my SOLO's. Decel popping is louder than ever but I've learned to like it. I get nothing but compliments now. I definitely noticed a power increase but don't have any Dyno tests to prove it. Very high quality construction, and fairly simple to install. Definately recommend this upgrade. Not sure about the shorties though. The stock shorties aren't that bad and the only ones I would consider are the AR ones.

Are Solo HF cats require a welder or do they bolt on?

Totally bolt on. It's a fairly easy install, but many people have trouble with crossthreaded O2 sensors.

I have them, they work quite well and dont require a tune. (AFM is more noticeable of course)

Supposedly, they make the stock exhaust sound pretty good. I'm not sure how they'd affect drone and AFM noise.
