That's a nice run.

It looks like that video was posted in May 2010 with a 2011. So here's what I don't understand. Why don't they release a video of the 2013 shelby at vir?

See how much of a difference a different driver, on a different day can make? About 6 seconds me reckons.

See post above. I don't drink the GT500 cool-aid, since I don't even own a GT500, but you guys with your alternate universe realities are really over the top. Calling something a lie just because you want it to be not be true does not make it so.

And here is another one, same day, same driver, same track, GT500 faster than the Boss 302 LS.

http://www.insideline.com/ford/musta...shoot-out.html

Enjoy.
Oh, but since 'Ring times are "irrelevant", and Lightning Laps emulate "real world drivers", many consider the Lightning Lap as a true North American result.

Perhaps the youtube guy would have improved by 5 or 6 seconds in the BOSS?

And we all know Inside Line drivers...aren't...don't we?!

I think SVT would like you to believe they have a Mustang for road-racy stuff (BOSS LS) and another for 1/4-mile sprints (GT500). It speaks to the Mustang group that they have TWO choices...and they buy more Shelbys than BOSSes.

But you missed my point if you think all people are going to do with their cars on the street is race Shelbys. That is against the law and if you get caught you lose your $ 60,000 car.
It's also against the law to drive above 30mph at Deal's Gap/Tail of the Dragon, which is what one would assume you are referring to when you say "driven in the mountains of East TN". Even if you were not, I cannot think of a curvy, mountain road in E TN where the posted speed limit is above 40mph. If you're taking a 25mph hairpin at 50mph, you're breaking the law as much as the guy racing stoplight-to-stoplight.

There isn't a lightning lap for the ZL1 yet. However, the most comparable lap times for The GT500 and ZL1 at VIR are the ones done by each company's professional driver. Keep in mind that the GT500 improved its lap time from 2010 to 2011 by 9 or 10 seconds. So the 2013 GT500 overcoming the 6 second gap between the 2012 ZL1 and 2011 GT500 is plausible, but not certain. As always none of this means anything since all the variables are different.

As I posted in another thread, SVT released that video only after C&D posted a "crappy" time in then 2011 GT500 (3.07 in February 2010) to illustrate what the car is capable of when driven properly. You better believe that if C&D muffs the 2013's time this year, SVT will release their video, which will silence most of this crap.

Even Ford ackwledged that the Boss was only faster on some tracks, so one would assume that would equate to tight, low speed tracks. That would make sense witht he propensity of the pre-2013 cars to spin the rear inside wheel on corner exit.

Since Ford is totally re-engineering the Mustang line in a couple years, I'm sure the outrageous HP and straight line performance of the 2013 GT500 was intended to give the current Mustang bragging rights to something. They surely knew the ZL1 would be very competitive with the 2012 GT500 and would most likely beat it in every category of performance (yes, I know the Mustang fanboys will want to argue that forever). Giving the GT500 80 more HP along with the weight advantage over the ZL1, all but guaranteed bragging rights at the drag strip and I believe they tried hard at earlier Nurburgring tests to make the Mustang outhandle the Camaro but realized that was impossible without major and costly suspension changes on an old platform. I think the Ford guys succeeded beyond expectations, if bragging rights was their goal, and deserve lots of credit.

However, if you want to go very fast in a straght line, all you need is HP. If anyone read the comparo in this month's Car & Driver, they tested the Audi A6, BMW M5, and the Mercedes E63 AMG and all 3 would have beat the Camaro with 1/4 mile times of 12.1, 11.9 and 12.0 (wouldn't that be embarassing) respectively and all with cars weighing 4200 lbs or more. None of them exceeded 560 HP. Crazy times, these!

OK, got it. Step 1) wait for a mag review to post a crappy time. Step 2) release the real video.

Interesting strategy. I prefer GMs strategy where they jump directly to step 2.

As said by b4z:

Ford made a great engine. Chevy made a great car.

Both cars are great...each in their own category. I'm a Chevy guy and accepted defeat from all this bench racing stuff. I'm buying a ZL1 or Chevy for that matter, only because it's a better car...to ME. Most car enthusiasts will buy their cars for the same reason, because it's for them.
