No way would a set of tires increase the grip on the gt500, NO WAY! Only the zl1 can be modified. Honestly I can't see how anyone could be disappointed in either car.

I agree. I'd take either one in a hearbeat. I wish I had the problem of having to choose between the two.

What I'd really like is to get the two biggest smack talkers from both sides - ZL1 and GT500, and pit them against my lowly little four cylinder at high plains. Then we can come back to these discussions about 1/4 mile and slalom speeds with a little perspective maybe?

Doesn’t take much in mods to get 4/10ths 0-60 or 1/2 sec 1320ft. Couple grand would easily do it for the LSA, now you have a quicker car, AND better handling (not to mention better looking) and still cost less.
Considering the extra 7 grand adds weight and no straight line performance I would state that your statement is off a little.

The ZL1 is a great car with 2011 GT500 performance! Ok the gm car does rate a little higher on the skid(1.03 v 1.01)...

In the head to head it was 1.03 vs .98

You guys have some serious butthurt over this article... I sure hope the ZL1 loses big time so you won't have anything left to whine about...
It's just one magazine rag... get over it...

I suggest you get an '06 Z06 and '10 GS side-by-each and have a really good look at the nomenclature (that's the tiny little printing on the tire's carcass). They's not the very same, son...

Apparently the opposite of the dream you are living in. Unless you know something nobody else does, you're speculating just like everyone else in this thread.

Well, we've had one comparison, and it's showing that the GT500 isn't as good on the skidpad or on a twisty road, even after swapping drivers.

It's the only comparison we've got...but when they talk about the taillights of the Camaro pulling away from the Mustang, methinks you should be worried that your camps claims that it could keep up on curves might have just been wishful thinking.

edit: Also, I suspect there's a reason we've never seen video or times from Ford on track times at VIR & Nurburgring. Embarassment? Probably. I mean...they readily released the better 1/4 mile times.

But price IS still a relevant factor. You start modding a GT500 and now that $7k gap widens. Take the base GT500 (No PP or TP) and the base ZL1 if you want to compare apples to apples. $7k is a pretty big difference in price

I fully agree. Everything is and should be based on value or bang for the buck. If two things are equal and one is less expensive it is the better deal. If two things are the same price and one is better it is the smarter buy. Simple.

So what huge difference between these tires makes the 2 second difference on lightning lap realistic? As far as I can find they are the same tire. Tirerack even lists the same exact tire as OE for both.
