87 IROC Z vs Grand National vs 5TH Gen V6...
I'd like to see an IROC Z 5.7 TPI auto take on a 5TH Gen V6. Both bone stock as they were from the factory...!!
And then I'd like to see the winner take on a Grand National...bone stock!! |

Having owned an '86 and later an '87 GN back in the day a bone stock GN would destroy the IROC without breaking a sweat and probably take a LFX by about .1-.2 tenths (amazing how much technology has improved small displacement engines since then) assuming both drivers were up to snuff and also assuming the ambient temps were in the 60s-70s. A stock turbo Buick doesn't like HOT days. Now lightly modified it would be a massacre. 12's were as easy as a big K/N filter, test pipe, 93 octane chip, sticky track, and practice.

A 5.7 IROC CAN be quicker than expected. i have seen a 91 Z28 run 14.1 with just drag readials and and even a few mid/low 14s stock so from a stop anyways it could give a stock 5th gen V6 a run. GN would kill it.

Good luck finding a stock GN willing to take it to the track, but if you do it would be the winner. The LFX should take an 87 IROC fairly easily.

Speed density L98 from 1990 to 1992. 245 hp 345 tq. 3400 lbs. Mid to low 14's with good conditions etc. Drivers race with new v6 5th.
87 Mass air L99 iroc had about 20 less hp and were mid to high 14's. Edge to v6 5th. GN was about high 13 stock. Edge to GN. |

Just google the 0 to 60 times on each car not hard at all. That's all anyone cares about.

I've had that website saved in my Google Chrome list for a while now. But seeing it on paper is nowhere near as fun as seeing it in person (or simply discussing it). I feel like every car has a personality. And while one car might lose to another on paper, a different car of the same make and model might do different...weird but it makes sense to me...

I don't know about what google says, but having owned an 89 IROC-Z with the 5.7 and a 2010 V-6, my money's on the IROC. That car "felt" a lot lighter and quicker. JMO.

I had an 87 IROC. 5 speed. Never did better than high 14's, low 15's. I would say 15.2 was my average.
Had a 93 LT1 Z/28. Ran consistent 14.1's. I used to race a buddy who had a stock Grand National regularly. In my LT1, it was a drivers race.....I used to beat him most of the time. he ran consistent 14.2-14.4. My LFX would crush my old IROC, lighter or not. This car pulls pretty hard once it gets it's steam up. The IROC used to fall on it's face in the upper rpm's. The fact that the LFX could hang with the LT1's of old, is quite a feat in my book. This is a great motor. |

Gn hands down. None of those cars make the instant offline torque the gn will. It's called brake boosting. 14.5 psi max boost stock...and it will hold all of that on the foot brake if stock as well. That's a damn sledgehammer going off when it launches. You do one that way and get it to hook...it's hi twelves stock.
