The horsepower doesn't determine what fuel is needed. 200 hp cars can require premium, 300 hp cars might not. Do what the engineers who write the manual recomend. Odds are, they have a better idea than you do about whats best for the car.

I see that you're from Vancouver as well... Have you ordered your SS yet? Any idea when it is coming in?
Last summer our dollars were roughly equal so no conversion is needed. By the way, you guys were getting screwed paying 1.50 for regular ... I never paid more than 1.35/L.

Exactly.....

If it cost $33 to fill up with cheap gas what's the big deal about paying $36 ?
In addition, your mileage will drop so any savings will be gone.

Just to clear up a common misconception. Higher octane fuel does not have more energy.
The energy density with the longer chain, higher octane fuel is the same as the shorter chain molecules of the lower octane fuel. Its all about how fast or slow it burns. The higher the octane the slower the burn. The higher the compression ratio the harder it is to avoid detonation. It has to be controlled somehow.

The V6 gets away with an 11.3:1 compression ratio with 87 octane because of the control of its direct injected and variable valve timing, etc.. You can read about it here

They say using the same technology on the LS3 engine size scale would come out to 523HP

My daughter bought a supercharged Monte and complained about having to use premium. After I explained that she'd only pay a couple of bucks more per tankful and be getting much better performance, she quit complaining.

Thanks for your technically accurate and understandable explanation. Unfortunately the brain dead will insist they are correct, pay more for octane they don't need and complain there is a "Big Oil" conspiracy about gas prices and go on their merry oblivious way.

Premium pays for itself via increased fuel mileage.

I have a 4-Runner v/8 purchased new that required premium. The service mgr at the dealer said if it runs good on regular its o.k. to use it. Years later and 80,000 miles never a problem.

Sorry all but if your putting regular in the v8 u cant afford it. Its the old saying u wanna play u gota pay. If costs are a real issue for you get the v6 it built for regular fuel. Just my opinion
