A question for the Z28 track fanatics. Now I understand why you do not want FI, namely heat soak and weight. But could this attitude could mainly be fostered by the prevalent use of PD blowers on 5th gens?

But what about Centrifugal FI? They do not contribute to heat soak, do they? Also, they are not all that heavy. And I suppose you could make the same argument for turbos.

Would a centrifugal or turbo powered smaller engine still tickle your fancy? If you think about it, the smaller engine idea fits the original Z28 idea better than a 427. 427 makes me think COPO.

And I suppose it is heresy to suggest a 6 cylinder Z28.

And taking the smaller idea even further, I have started daydreaming about BRZs. It seems to me my hacked SS Z28 wannabe is far faster at the track than I am capable of driving. It may be even faster than a stock 1LE. At the speeds my car is capable of generating it would be very easy to make a small mistake that could have serious consequences. The BRZ just seems like pure fun. Sure it is slower, but that is a good thing.

I think a comparison could be: Is it just as much fun to drive a really fast car at 6-7/10s of its capability than to drive a slower car at 8-9/10s?

I may be changing my mind about buying another Camaro any time soon. The money I would spend on a 1LE, or hopefully for you guys a Z28, could pay for a good portion or all of another car. Maybe my SS will become just another garage queen. I do plan to keep the beast though. It is an amazing car.

Just musing away on Father's day while my wife and three daughters slave away in the kitchen, making their task my every wish.

When you "compress" anything...air, for instance...you also HEAT it. To dissipate the heat, you need increased/enhanced cooling, be it air-to-air, air-to-water, water-to-air etc. To increase cooling capacity, you need bigger/heavier/co$tlier cooling components...which add weight, and complexity, and expen$e.

There was a significant number of "Hoorays!!" when the ZL1 name was adopted, and the Z28 name was NOT. And (witness the Z28 Section's sustained postings) there was/is a sustained desire, unrequited, for a "true" _ / _ _ Something with a touch more "hot sauce" underhood than the SS/1LE...just like the Gen-1 _ / _ _ offered more than the "regular" SS.

"Light-as-likely", fully able to carve canyons with the very best 4-seaters out there...

Very cool pictures Jim. Didn't take you very long to stumble on to the car scene out there.

My plan to fix NASCAR...

Chevrolet teams run Chevrolet SS's that very strongly resemble the production model. Right down to four doors.

Ford teams run...Taurus SHOs I guess. Again, very minor differences between race car and production model.

Dodge runs Chargers. Ditto.

Toyota gets the hell out, because #1: They have nothing they could run anyways and #2: Who would give a sh*t?

My addition to the car show pics....

I was not a fan of the LFA until I had time to really visually molest and hear one in person. The sound it makes is ridiculously sweet.

The LFA is nice, but the Aventador is sublime. Plus it is top dog right now according to Top Gear eu.

For how much Toyota wants for an LF-A, I would much rather buy a Ferrari.

I agree that the price is a lot for what you get...... I will say the sound is just frecking amazing. I really don't even know how to describe it.

This coming from the guy who reallllllllly likes the throaty sound of a rumbling V8.... go figure.

Great post there! I'm one of those that wants something closer to a "true" Z/28 and yes it needs more "hot sauce" under the hood than an LS3. I really don't think that Chevy will build a new, specific engine just for the Z/28 right now (though that could happen for a 6th gen but I think even that is unlikely), with that in mind I see the LS7 as the only logical remaining choice for a fifth gen. Z/28. Yes it's a 427 (albeit an SBC version), but given that there is no smaller displacement/higher revving engine currently available, I think it is the only choice. And so I continue to wait and see when a new Z/28 becomes reality, I do thinkl we'll see one eventually.
