GM's price to change break pads, guess?
I need to vent a little, so what better place then here!
I left my car to the Dealer this morning to change all 4 corners break pads with 4 x NEWTEK Posi-tek semi-metallic pads that I've already bought. They wanted to charge me 3 hours of labour at $110 plus lube ....believe it or not; the bill came to $426.00...wow! Their excuse? it's a fix rate! 1,5 hours for the front + lube 1.5 hours for the rear + lube After, discussion, My agent invoiced me a total of 2 hours of labor + $12 of lube! I ended up paying $267 including taxes. ![]() Anyway, what did you guys ended up paying for brake pads installation?

Why not do it yourself or pay a buddy to do them? I just changed my buddies pads on his SS for a 12 pack, took about 30 min.

12 bucks for lube? Wow alone. And brakes are not one of things that should never be billed by the hour. Should have been like 80 front 80 rear. Even that is way way too much for me to ever pay. I wonder is it actually took the installer 3 hours. Cause if so he should be fired

Pricing sounds about right to me. We charge 1.5 hour to install pads, clean slides, clean pin bolts, clean or replace hardware. If the rotors need to be machined that is an additional $80 per pair. Most shops have a fixed price on brake jobs. 4 wheel drive trucks and others where hubs are disassembled cost more.

We charge 2 hours an axle, but they discount it down to somthing like 75 an hour. hard to turn rotors in your driveway.

lets be honest here... this is a simple replacement with no rotor work. it takes 20 minutes at the most per wheel for a junior tech at $50 per hour. its a $75 job... i wish i had a workshop sometimes... next house perhaps!

Sounds like some of you guys need to move to Georgia with the prices getting posted. 80 dollars per pair to turn rotors? They shop down the road from me charges 15 dollars a rotor.
