That being said, the car that is faster will always be more fun to drvie., and a 10+mph advantage in the traps is EVRY apparent behind the wheel. There is also some sense of satisfaction, to me at least, that knows you have most cars covered during these little "test of acceleration" we stumble across from time to time. It's not about lap times or ETs for me, it is about having a car that really gets the blood pumping and poop shoot puckering a little when you hit the gas in traffic. |

For those who think the Miata will conquer ANYONE, let me remind you:
http://media.caranddriver.com/files/...erformance.pdf The SLOWEST time ever run @ Lightning Lap? Yup...Miata...something the Ford drag racers no doubt could replicate. Part 2: Gee, Bob, you didn't want ALL the good news to come from ONE reliable source, did you? Besides, unlike some from the Sand Very Tasty site, I don't normally post 10-15-20 times a day. I actually have a life... Bologna? Correct. What wins at the strip is shown by the WIN light...and the quickest doesn't always light THAT bulb, do they, Bob? Statistically, Yes. In Fact, No. "Gentlemen, start your BENCHES!" Last edited by LOWDOWN; 06-20-2012 at 12:37 PM. |

Commits weekly crime

Chevy released it's 1/4 mile times.
I'd say honest ones do.

I DON'T see stock CTS-V's routinely in the 117-119 MPH trap speeds, and I see quite a few of them at the track....including fellow drag race friend's who own them.

We all knew what the outcome of this drag was gonna reveal. I'm gonna go out on a limb and say the final test is gonna be a tie. Why? Cuz their gonna leave it up to the customers to have the last say. As it should be. Just my .02 cents.

both impressive for showroom stock cars. I don't think there is a question the Shelby will be much faster in a straight line no matter which magazine is doing the testing. Biased or not. The 3rd stage will be a win for the ZL1.

[QUOTE=Bob Cosby;5157842]Bologna. Drag racing is ALL ABOUT TIME SLIPS. Of course, this was said by the same folks that printed this yesterday...
QUOTE] I hate to agree but I kind of feel that author seemed to care so much about the "time slip" yesterday and today, he is totally discounting it. I think of anything, it's the other way around. Driving in a roadcourse is not about the timeslip but rather the experience. Driving on a strip is about how fast you can get down the 1320, hence, the timeslip counts a lot. These two cars are awesome in their own way. I wish I could have both. |

Chevrolet has an official trap speed of 119mph...How come every test I have seen has been 114-116mph...I think the long QC hold may have something to do with it. BTW 125mph is moving! Good job Ford

These times that the zl1 is getting are the exact same on the strip that the 11/12 gt500 pulled. I would have thought that gm would create something faster than the rival?

I think its the same results that will be seen over and over. While the ZL1 is fully capable on the drag strip, it was aimed more towards the track. And while the GT500 is fully capable on the road course, it is more aimed towards the strip. Good comment from the drag side of this "battle" "Funny, when the ZL1 wins a 2+ mile track test by 7/10ths of a second, it is declared the obvious winner. When the Shelby wins a 1/4 mile drag by 5/10ths of a second and 11 MPH, all the "objective" auther has to say is they are both good cars... Wonder if that has anything to do with the fact that it is a Chevy ad on this page instead of a Ford ad?"

GM even said it would, "run 11-second quarter-miles all day long" as well.
