Exclamation Shop did not install my C5R chain and LS7 dampner during LS3 conversion

Just received a phonecall from the shop. My car is ready.
They installed a LS3 conversion, Trunion upgrade, new cam, new heads, dual springs, hardened pushrods, ...
I am really happy with their work and this shop got *great reputation over here.

They told me they did not install my C5R chain and the LS7 dampner because of the following reasons:

- My car is still brand new (2'500 miles)
- they never had any problems with the stock chain and dampner
- If you open the chain "housing" and reuse all the stock gaskets it won't be as well sealed as before
- it is very extensive/time consuming because the oilpan has to be opened and the oilpump has to be removed

Do this statements make sense to you guys?

they didnt want to open up the oil pan obviously. you have to lift the engine way up to get it to drop far enough to get the pump off. Did they say they were going to do it prior to "digging into it"? You should have been charged more to pull the oil pan to change the chain, were you? its damned near impossible to change the pump with the pan on. my oil pan was about 1/4 from the bolt head for the oil pump. when i seen that, i pulled the engine. there is no way it would come off without dropping the pan, and with all the crossmenbers on these cars, it is not a fun job.

but if you paid for it, they should have done it, or gave you the choice when they figured this out.

How did they install the cam without removing the "chain housing" which I assume they meant timing cover? If you provided the parts and asked for them to install them, they should have installed them. When you're that far into it, it's not much more work to do the swap. I changed to the C5R timing chain and dampner when I did my cam.

by opening the housing, they mean grinding out the casting. a double roller chain will not physically fit without modification.

The pan only has to be slightly lowered to separate the pump and pickup tube.

The C5R chain is not a double roller.

then there is no reason not to install it. my guess would be that they forgot they had parts to install, and remembered after it was too late.

that sucks.

Sounds like they flat rated the job. Probably pulled the timing cover, saw that getting the chain and oil pump out is a little more work and just decided to put it back together and give you a line of crap.

Don't worry it will be fine. I asked all the chain and tensioner questions when i did mine and every shop i talked to said the stock parts will hold up, No problems so far.

More likely it will be fine, damper is main suspect others have ran it in success. Main thing is running a 3 bolt cam and gear.

Did they charge you for it? If not, eh....but it would be nice to have that choice.

If so, Id say that they are lazy, forgot, or are just lazy. Oh did I say that twice?

FWIW.

You will be fine. Many cars run without the dampner including myself.
