You can also use regular unleaded gasoline rated at 87 octane or higher, but the vehicle's acceleration could be slightly reduced, and a slight audible knocking noise," |

I have a Tuned V6 by Trifecta and Vince told me on the phone No drastic gains from using 87 to 93 other than cost . I even tried it on a local dyno and saw nothing to brag about . Just my .02

![]() Gretchen, if people have done it and seen differences that is very cool. I agree that only you can decide if it's worth it though, I would more more than happy to make a new thread on that topic with my car, if I knew someone with a dyno lol

V6 never needs premium, its not better gas, it just has octane, a knock inhibitor, your engine isnt going to knock on regular, therefore you are wasting your money. Science, not opinion!

Guys on here have tested this and apparently there is knock with 87, and the computer pulls timing. It is able to advance timing with higher octane. Try it and see if you notice any difference. It's not really that much more $$ per fill up.

scrrming (or something like that) posted results a looong time ago of hooking a computer up to his 2010 V6. He found that on 87 the car pulled timing a lot. With 91 it hardly ever had to pull timing. The conclusion is that 87 is fine to run but to get the most performance from the V6 you should use a higher octane.

If mpg is your main goal, stick with 87. I have found that using premium the mileage does go up slightly(about 5%) but since the cost difference is 10% or more, it is not worth it for that.
If performance is what you want then YES, use 91 or 93 Octane, remember it will take about 100 miles(I read that somewhere) for the computer to reset for the higher octane. |
