Supercharger Solid Isolator Coupling

Does anyone know if the solid coupler is made of steel or another type of material , the stock one is plastic with a spring in it ?

Tim, I believe it's made of hard plastic. A must upgrade if your taking the snout off.

It is made out of a Fast1000 (very hard pheonolic type material.)

I thought it was changed to a solid unit for our cars similar to the LS9. There are so many issues with the crappy piece in CTS-V's, I could not see GM using them but what do I know.

I believe the superchargers are coming from Eaton already assembled, so GM wouldn't change out the coupler. Apparently, there were no changes to the ZL1 blower over the CTS-V, because mine sounds like rocks in a can. I've listened to a CTS-V with a pulley and other upgrades, and all I heard was the engine at idle.

I read that GM was replacing entire SCs under warranty for noise issues. If you are pulley'ing, that might be trouble, though. Reports also say these solid couplers do nothing that shock the bearings, so, for $50, it might be worth considering. I'm not sure how bad the rattle is, but I'm sure I'd be irritated by the noise.

GM has issued a bulletin to not replace any more superchargers and that the noise is normal, and proven by Eaton. It's a noisy design but at least the aftemarket came up with a solution. The noise was one of the first things I noticed when I heard the car started for the first time. You can easily hear it outside the car, but not inside. I'm not worried about it since I'm considering adding a smaller pulley and will change it out when I do so. I was quoted arround $350 for replacing just the coupler, so I decided to wait.

AH!!! Thank you for setting me straight! Was that $350 just for the coupler or did that include installation. I thought one might be able to pull the pulley without the snout, but that appears not to be the case (or - that was because the snout was getting ported).

Personally - I'll be looking at both pulleys and a tune (among other supporting mods'). I guess there goes any SC warranty

It included the coupler. I believe the supercharger has to be raised or removed to get the snout off, so there's a bit of labor including resealing the snout. I've see a YouTube video on how to change it on a CTS-V. I just figured that I'd wait to see more results of HP gains for a ported snout, TB, a smaller pulley, and a CAI do including the coupler. That would probably be my mod limit on the car and would save $$ to do it all at one time.

Does anyone have a source and part number for the replacement coupler?
Thanks.

I just found the information outlined in the "PROBLEMS" thread 5 down from this one.
Thanks.

I've seen that video, I think. Wasn't it Fastlane? They didn't pull the SC for that if I recall.

I hear you. It seems like that 2.55-inch upper, with CAI, tune, and ported snout are good for at least 40-50 RWHP. I think you're spot-on, because if you do one at a time, for at least a couple of those mods', you would probably require a tune - well - at least the pulley. Lowering restrictions with the CAI and TB might be enough to require a tune to be safe, too.

I was hoping to see more from the likes of Lingenfelter, ADM, Hennessey, and Jannetti (among MANY others), but a lot of those guys went straight for records and skipped on reporting a lot of the smaller stuff. I do appreciate ADM's participation with GMHTP a few months ago and look forward to Redline's articles coming soon. I'll definately be keeping my eyes open in HR, PHR, CHP, and SC for these sorts of articles. I think it's going to be nice that it will be relatively easy to pulley-up a little to meet similar numbers to the Imp. It's easier for them to go straight past, but my goal is relatively modest, so what that faction does is of no consequence to me
