Throwing in some headers with high-flow cats and getting rid of the resonators will definately "open up" the sound a lot.

It's up to you, though, to decide if you want to deal with the Check Engine Light (CEL) that comes with doing long-tube headers or you can go with shorty headers.

There's lots of options
I agree with getting the long tube headers (ARH here), with a GOOD tuner, because you will have to get it tuned, you should not have any CEL's poping up. You'll get louder and add some hp. The key thing is find a tuner that knows what they are doing.

Fact of the matter is 90% of mainstream consumers..yes.. even people who buy the SS. Don't want the in-cabin sound associated with a louder SS that will undoubtedly accompany with the purchase of headers or cam unless you want to spend the time and money to work past the issue such as J pipes or dynomat... even that won't 100% solve the problem.

Then the flip side of owners are people who think there car isn't loud at all and do everything they can to make it louder to the point they completely disregard tone.

You need to find a happy medium with this car and as I said, that usually comes from long tubes and a reputable company's catback exhaust.... one day working towards a cam. Don't be the guy who disregards tone. These cars with headers are MUCH louder outside to other people than it appears in cabin. I was the same way until I had my wife drive by me and I had the "Oh chit" face.

I'll definitely keep this in mind. Thanks everyone for the great input and advice! As always great website great community

I have high flows and a solo catback. The hi flow cats really make the car sound louder and meaner, but only when I get on the throttle. At idle (once it's warmed up) it's still relatively quiet. The cabin really deadens a lot of the sound though. I wish I could hear my car from behind while someone else is driving it. Although, that would mean I'd have to let someone else drive it

very well said. i know what you mean about keeping a good tone. thats what to me is very frustrating. my exhaust is still not where i want to 100%. i want a loud, but toned sound. and it seems the louder you get the less toned it gets.

Yea, and truthfully after the cam I wonder if any catback really matters from one or the other. Cat back and header pairing seems critical.. but at that point of a cam you are just blowin violent lope out lol

I love the sound of my cam because of the lope and uniqueness compared to other vehicles on the road...but the borla tone I loved is drowned out by in cabin volume now.

When Horsepower TV did the Mario Andretti build they started the car with the entire catback missing and it was still quiet because of the FOUR factory cats. lol.

Its never gonna sound good with 4 cats on it, I dont care what exhaust you put on it! Get rid of the cats and it will be a hole new car, you will need a tune to get rid of the CEL... but I drove with my LTs and no cats for a year without it tuned, no problem. These cars run fine without a tune when you remove the cats, just have to deal with the light.

The cats are the main factor dampening your sound. If you have the L99, the resonator is HUGE and also plays a big part. Dump those, and you'll be greatly pleased

Well shoot wish they didn't throw a cel. Else I would do it. Was gonna wait a year or so before getting LTs and a tune. Guess I'll be waitin to get louder exhaust!
