Question Foglights..on the 2LT

Why is it that the foglights on the 2LT don't come on at night but only during the day? I think I'm gonna go to a customizing shop and get them to rewire my lights so I can control my foglights.

Its because of the RS package. The RS package turns the fog lights into daytime running lights.

What does the RS package have to do with anything?

Richochet;

This is described in the owners manual. With the RS Package, the "Foglights" are actually Daytime Running Lights.

The HID headlights, certainly throw out more than enough light from my expereince so far.

The HID (high intensity discharge) headlights that come with the RS package are bright enough that fog lights are unnecessary. This, plus the fact that the normal 'fog lights' (actualyl DRLs on the RS package) are a different shade of light than the HIDs is why the stock setting won't allow both to be on at the same time. Kinda weird I know.

We had an agreement on the ChevyAvalancheFanClub.com website where members of the forum changed the DLRs from the clear bulbs to amber. If you happened to meet another Chevy Avalanche on the highway and see the amber lights, you'd know that person was also a club member. Always thought it was a neat idea.

Okay, so let me see if I have this straight....I want the Halo's to be my DRL's. So that means I have to not get the RS package? I thought getting the RS package was the only way to get the Halo's.

I mean, I've been away from this site (at least on a regular basis) for awhile, but did something change in the packaging?

No, you can still do it, they just won't AUTOMATICALLY turn on when you start the car (unless its night time). To turn on the halo's: turn the light knob all the way to the left (off), then back to the running lights (between auto and headlights i believe). This will turn on the halo's, fog/DRLs will be off.

Getting the RS package is indeed the only way to get the halos stock. As brokinarrow explains below, you can manually turn on the halos whenever you would like, thus turning off the "fog lights" or DRL.

IMO, why have the "foglights" at all if they don't work? Why not just have the ambers as the DRL's like the rest of the chevy lineup?

Probably comes down to having too many different parts from an inventory and ordering perspective. This way, they have all the same fog light assemblies and just a slightly different wiring harness or maybe just a different computer program (which costs nothing in terms of parts).

I ordered the RS package and plan on replacing the fog/DRL bulbs with ambers. When I drive in the daytime the amber fog/DRL lights will automatically turn on. IMHO having amber DRLs makes the car more visible to others.

I think the ambers being DRL's would draw focus away from those mean Halos. I wish the halos were the DRL's, but fogs is the next best thing. I'm trying to figure out how to wire my Grand Prix to use foglights as DRL's instead of the headlights right now. Inspired by a combination between GP mods and the Camaro.
