I think the Ford guys on this site just want to see some respect that the GT500 is a very formidable opponent for the ZL1 where ever the meet.
It has done just about everything either GM said it wouldnt be able to do, or the hype machine for the ZL1 said that the GT500 couldnt do. AL O. ZL1 will be faster to 60. Nope GT500 wont be able to put power down- Obliterated the ZL1 in the 1/4, and IIRC Probst said it puts power down better than any LRA car should be able to. Then its the GT500 is a one trick pony and is only good for 1/4 mile blasts, it handles like a brick and can't turn to save its life so it won't be able to touch the ZL1 on a roadcourse. Its posted faster lap times on two different tracks, tied with it on another and lost on one by 7/10 of a second. I would say thats more then hanging with, I would say thats right there with it, on a outdated chassis, outdated suspension, and as we have seen now in the mag reviews suspect brakes. Now I agree the ZL1 will be the more track ready/friendly vehicle bc of the advanced suspension, brakes etc. And I also understand why the mags gave the nod to the ZL1, its a fantastic car Then I hear oh put that extra money into the ZL1 and see what happens, well if GM had option packages Im sure they would have. these are stock cars being compared here, so toss that argument out. Then I see compare the ZR-1 to the GT500, totally different class of cars, price range etc etc. I even saw in a different thread that its not fair to compare the GT500 to the ZL1 bc its not a production car I don't even know what to say to that haha.I know this is a GM forum and there is a natural hatred for Ford hahaha, but stop calling the GT500 a straightline only vehicle. I think the tests have shown it can more then hold its own on a roadcourse, |

IMO - for me - I like the input from many of the remaining Ford, AND and non-brand-biased guys. The Ford faithful, that take time to remain respectful and make valid points are those that I have the highest respect for. The rest - not so much. And those won't be here much longer...

![]() Seems Randy even thinks its (GT500) the better track car with brakes. Would love to see some different pads, fluid and dryer ducting put on. Most likely all of $400 dollars in parts none of which would have anything to with the warranty. Randy really makes the stang look like a handling machine actually. On the ZL1 you can totally see how balanced the car is. No body roll what so ever. Brakes must be awesome (Same as CTS-V correct?) as you can see the smile on his face. Drag strip looked bad from every angle. I think both cars look great and the Z has the better stance. Great Video MT! Last edited by Betiwin; 06-28-2012 at 10:47 AM. |

I am some what sad to see that Motor Trend did for the test data what some rags do. It looks as though they didn't record new 0-60 and 1/4mile times (as well as the other data). Instead they used data from previous test and just ran with it, was hoping to get some same day test data.
Still, Camaro won and for exactly the same reason that the other car mags stated except some shocks. It came down on the track to a lack of brake cooling ducts on the GT500 which caused the brakes to over heat. You know that Ford is back to adding some brake cooling ducts to the car, I know if I was Ford I would be. |

Zl1 seems to be much more forgiving however, no question.

Thats debatable. With Fords decision to go for max HP... they essentially put the GT500 in a higher class. So really the GT500 should be facing say a Z06 or ZR1. Ford tried to make a super car, well the ZL1 is not a super car. Its a supercharged muscle car you can take to the track. The Z06 is a track/racing supercar. And the ZR1 is Chevy's top dog. If your going to put the GT500 up for fair competition, well it won't be against the ZL1

I just noticed Randy also drove it almost 2-seconds faster in this test than in the Boss test. It was nice to hear some more comments regarding the balance, turn-in, and so on.

Anybody who has ever gone to test and tune night at their local drag strip or has done any drag racing on the street has seen, MANY TIMES, The car with less power(A LOT LESS in some cases) walk off and leave more powerful cars!! A race(any kind of race) with cars at this level is going to come down to the driver, plain and simple. Some people(Im not saying everybody) get so bent out of shape over these tests, and they dont even own either of these cars!!! Or have any plans or $$$ to buy one of them anyway!!!! Both of these cars are awesome. Im just glad we all have the choice of both these great cars made by American car companies!! Just my 2cents

well said. When I had my 04 Mustang GT witha couple bolt ons, I was able to beat a couple LS2 GTOs at a test n tune one day. Only reason why was b/c the few I beat the owners could not drive. Later that day raced an Auto GTO and got what I knew was coming, and that was watching the GTO walk away from me lol
Driver Mod-best mod ever lol. |
